AD offering me a several watches?

Hello Fellas,

I have been on the “waiting list” for a Daytona ceramic white dial since 1918 so I decided to check in with my AD. He said things are looking better and I should be getting the call somewhere between 2050 and 2060. I couldn’t hold my excitement so I asked if he had anything else in stock without a waiting list and he said he currently has a Yachtmaster II in steel, a 2 tone steel and 18k sub, a ceragold Daytona with black dial and a white gold MOP diamond dial Daytona. Are these hard to get?. I’ll be glad to pass on the info if anyone is interested.

I too got on the waiting list in 1918, I went in to my AD looking to buy a Daytona to celebrate armistice day at the end of the First World War, or the Great War as we called it back then. Anyway, he laughed at me and said join the back of the queue sonny Jim. Been patiently building my relationship with them ever since, but I'm small time, I've only spent about £8.4 million in the meantime.

Odat, I seem to remember you paying upfront for a SS Daytona from a small market dealer a couple of years ago. How did that work out?

That’s correct. After 2 years of being on that list and paying a 50% deposit, and still getting the “it could be a couple more years” generic answer, I gave up and canceled. I put my self on a different waitlist shortly after I paid that deposit that did not require a deposit and that didn’t go well either. Still waiting!. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll see one anytime soon. I have a Navitimer 01 that I enjoy greatly in the mean time.

Yep that’s close to what happened in my situation.

Close :-). This one is in Texas. Unless you’re a high roller or extremely lucky, don’t think you’ll find a Daytona anywhere!.

My guess is they just don't make enough Daytonas for the number of buyers out there. Yes, I know the asking price on the secondary market seems high, but unless you are a regular client at the AD, the watch remains difficult to get at MSRP.

Jeez I’m surprised you didn’t get a last minute telegram to pick up that Daytona with all the Spanish flu going around back then. And you’re lucky, they wanted me to bundle a pocket watch and a cane topper to get a shot at a daytona!

Sorry to hear. I got my Daytona from a Houston dealer after a 9 month wait. I am not a whale but it wasn’t my first purchase there either.

Lucky man!. I haven’t purchased anything from the dealer I had a deposit with. I would have if he had anything I liked but he doesn’t. I guess it makes all the difference. Enjoy yours!. It’s a beautiful watch!

There is no lack of 'trusted' Grey's, I would be looking there if in the market to buy an unobtainable from AD.

You need to spend more than that. Then you're upgraded to the preferred customer list, which may or may not exist, but is worth the bragging rights to the less fortunate souls sitting in coach.
