Rolex 114060

Dear all, I recently purchased a 114060 (2013 model) and am a little suspicious of the bracelet's authenticity. I noticed that the part of the clasp with the rolex insignia has a 'frosted background' (see my photo, mine is the first one), whereas other examples that I have seen on the internet have a high shine/ silver gloss finish. Is this something to worry about? Is this a genuine bracelet clasp?

Also, how much bracelet stretch can you expect for a 7 year old 114060

Thanks for your advice, and stay safe and healthy everyone

My 2015 114060 bracket is exactly the same frosted finish as yours. I bought mine brand new from my local AD so I know it is real, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

I’m curious as to when Rolex started to polish the clasp ... was it in and around 2016?

Yeah.. And in 2018 I think they made the submariner text a little more bold

I believe the bold font was 2017, as mine has it, and the paperwork is dated Dec 2017.

Let’s say late 2017 haha. Sometimes i want to buy another 114060 just because they made som changes and because it’s the best watch ever.

I knew about the clasp differences but I just recently became aware of the change in the SUBMARINER font. It's fun to discover the subtle changes references undergo over the years.

This is true I find out little details like this I didn’t know about before from time to time.

Also the ‘m’ hugs the ‘300’ instead of having a space in between.

I have oyster bracelets with both frosted and unfrosted.

The frosted is from a random serial 116610LN, the polished is from a random serial 116610LV

They must have changed it at some point.

Sometime in 2015, the 'frosted' clasp blades where superseded with the polished clasp blades.
I bought my 114060 in November 2015 and whilst in the AD receiving the watch - being very geeky and removing the protective stickers - a few things stood out:
  • Polished blades
  • Green 5 year Warranty seal
  • My wife watching me regress to a 5 year old before her eyes, unboxing the watch!

Beautiful buy, as everyone has already said nothing to worry about. The frosted Clasp was updated going into late 15. Nice buy , I too have a 114060 and love this thing

I absolutely love finding out about the small nuances and subtle iterations that Rolex does for different batches of the 114060. There is actually a whole world of information on millenary watches' website.

For example, for my submariner (photo below):
- the top of the ”f” in ft does not extend over the "t", and the line across f cuts across the whole letter F, whereas it only points out on the right side on 2010, 2014 and 2018 versions
- the ”Swiss made” printing is not identical
- there is a big gap between the "t" "=" and "3", more like ”100 ft = 300 m” as opposed to "100ft=300m” which was seen in the earliest models. This trend continues from 2013-present, and interestingly the "=" shape also changes to become more italic

I would probably place my example around 2013

These subtleties probably don't carry as much significance as a red liner, but heck reading about them gets me through my social isolation

The dial on this watch is absolutely stunning, you can stare into the rich black background all day long, the reflection of the moving second's hand glints brilliantly

As much as I admire the construction of the watch, mine has some degree of stretch on the bracelet. In theory, with the solid bracelet construction on the modern SS models, I was expecting this to be next to none after 7 years of use. I've attached a stretch photo below.

The other thing I noticed is that the platinum inlay on the bezel to denote the minutes can be subject to wear. Any suggestions on how to clean this, short of replacing the bezel

You're fine. Interestingly enough I bought mine late 2016 and it has the polished clasp and I had the same question as you because every picture I saw has the frosted one. It was my first new Rolex so I didn't realize they would make that big of a change mid lifecycle.

Looks fine. In any event, once the RSC open, they will be able to tell. However, it looks good here.

I was curious about the timeframe of the two clasps a couple years ago too so here’s some info.

It's possible the dial font and polished clasp change came at the same time? Any one know for sure? My guess is 2016.
