Rolex Tiffany Signed
Hello!
Is a Tiffany signed Rolex, in this case an Oyster Perpetual, worth more or less than one that is not signed? Thanks so much! |

Paperwork is key and or proving provenance.

Yes, it is worth more if the Tiffany connection is convincingly documented, e.g. with the original paperwork. If there is no provenance, the added value may be minimal because these dials are widely faked. However, as long as the Tiffany signature is high quality and plausibly correct, it shouldn't lower the value. You should post clear high-resolution photos if you want credible information.

Thanks! I will post photos as soon as I can. Just heard about the watch, but didn't know about the signing value...or lack of value...

I do, and do not have a horse in this race. Dad's watch, no papers, never selling, if I can avoid it. There are signed examples that sell all the time, without papers or provenance for significantly over standard value for the reference. I will give you two examples both of which sold last year. One at a Phillips auction (Double-Signed a Celebration of the Finest… https://www.phillips.com/detail/rolex/CH080319/36 ), and the other sold by Sotheby's in June or something (Important Watches - https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auct...y-co-root-beer)
None of these have any documentation or paperwork and I think the stamp on the fuchsia Pepsi looks, meh. Clearly that did not deter people from paying a premium. It can be assumed that the auction house provided verification but just like any auction house there is a disclaimer. As we are on the Rolex Forums you are not going to find many serious collectors spending over the price for an undocumented watch, and many will not even purchase a regular one without papers. That said, I am quite sure those who actually kept all the paperwork are in a very small percentage. I mean keep the box or turn it into a cigarette holder or ash tray.? So much better! BTW, on another note I just had my watch authenticated by Rolex who sent it out to their vintage specialists in Pennsylvania. Not sure if it means anything but Rolex will service my watch. Here are pics of the listings if you are hesitant to click the links I provided because of SPAM or some S#%$! Lastly, I think we have all seen the guy on Antiques Roadshow with a Tiffany dial GMT gilt, only a picture of his uncle with the watch and a serious tan line from wearing the watch solid for 40 years. No paperwork. Although to be honest that one had other things in it's favor as well. Sorry it's so long. I love commenting on these threads. And so it begins… |

I have a 1990-ish DJ with Tiffany dial passed down from my late father. It's my prize possession. We had lost the papers, but after cleaning out the house my mother located them. I have all he documentation along with the exception of the box. So relieved and thrilled, no intention of selling but it feels good to have.

The problem is that Tiffany stamps started to command a premium, and they were faked so often and so well that they sometimes can’t be distinguished from the real thing. I don’t know whether this will eventually happen with Rolex warranty papers also, but there are many examples of collectible items where the value of legitimate items is hurt by the prevalence and quality of fakes. (See, e.g., everything from Dali to Keith Haring to KAWS.) |
