$50

An American, an Italian and a Canadian were in a bad car accident. All three died on the way to the hospital. Just as they were about to transfer the American to the morgue, he opened his eyes. Astonished, the doctors and nurses present asked him what happened.

"Well, " said the American, "I can remember the crash, and then there was a flash of light, and suddenly the Canadian, the Italian and I were standing at the gates of heaven. St. Peter walked up and told us that for a donation of $50 each, we could return to the earth.

So I pulled out my wallet, gave him the 50 bucks, and the next thing I knew I was back here."

"That's amazing!" said one of the doctors, "But what happened to the other two?"

"Last I saw them," replied the American, "the Italian was haggling over the price and the Canadian was waiting for the government to pay for his."

I don't get it... why is the Canadian comment supposed to be funny?

I also think Frans forgot the Swiss - he didn't want to choose whether he was alive or dead, so he paid $1,000,000 into the numbered account he had opened for St. Peter, and yodeled away into the distance
