Swaps.. GMT-Datejust

So here I am with a 1978 "1675 GMT Rootbeer" and I am seriously considering swapping it for a 116234 Steel & White Gold Datejust.
The reason I post this is because I have a 50/50 mix of friends either for or against this swap.I personally have never owned a DJ and I like the history and sturdy reputation. I have 2 other GMT's and feel if I was to do this now maybe the right time?

As much as I love the Datejust as a wear with anything watch, I would say no, if you want a DJ they are easy enough and cheap enough to purchase as a second watch. Keep the Root Beer, you won't regret it.

People in this sub are gonna to all tell you no because of the sports model hype. But they aren't gonna ask the important questions. Like what condition is your 1675 in? Does it have box and papers? Bracelet? are you getting any money in this trade or is it straight up? If I already had 2 other GMTs and wasn't wearing my 1675 then I would consider flipping it for a brand new DJ just for variety in my collection. Life is too short to hoard pieces that you aren't gonna wear

Even if the answer is no to all of the above , I’d keep the GMT and add the DJ

I would not and I would add a DJ is I wanted one. Not enough money to justify the sell of the GMT.

My GMT is in fairly decent condition, the bracelet has been refurbed by Michael Young so the folded links show wear. It has no box and papers. the Dtaejust in a 10years old, box papers and in mint condition.

That is where I am thinking I will head if the offer does not include some cash.

Straight swap, oh heck no.

If you're getting a few grand back, maaaaybe... yet personally, heck no. Keep the vintage Rootbeer is what i'd do. jmho

If you reeeeally want the DJ, how much are they giving you $$$ for the trade? Do you have the original box, papers, warranty stuff?

That GMT has a charm and coolness factor that you’ll possibly never be able to get again without spending a ton of money. The Datejust is a nice watch but there are millions of them out there. You can always get one with a little patience. Don’t do it.

I wish I could find people to consider such swaps with me ;)

No way you should do that. Listen to the 50% of your friends who are advising against it.

I would keep the icon and save for a DJ. But that's just me.

Straight swap? No way. I'm not one to hang on to a watch I'm not wearing but you should be getting cash back on this deal

Don’t do it. I sold my 16753 and regretted it instantly. Currently own a 1675 and it’s not the same. The 16753 was a touch too blingy for me and I thought I’d be better off with the SS.

I’m trying now to move to a 216570 — different beast altogether (not for looks. But just because my life is a bit too rough for the 1675 and I don’t want to wreck it)! The Datejusts aren’t my kind of thing, so my advice is based purely on my own regrets.
