No - it defeats the entire idea of luxury watch ownership and collecting to me. I view a lot of it as rewarding yourself at the end of a destination/road or celebrating a milestone.

Very hard to 'bond' to something that is not yours.

And very tough to make sense of it financially esp for watches that relatively do not depreciate.

While this is not something that I would necessarily do myself, I am surprised by the strong negative reaction to renting watches. How is this different from leasing a car? I willing to bet that most of the people of TRF posting pictures of their watches next to Porsche, BMW and Audi steering wheels don’t actually own those cars.

Yeah I don't think it's any different.

Innovative purchasing models for any appreciating assets will likely enter most markets at some point.

Of course not, doth protest the self-appointed elite intelligentsia. It might hurt resale value and exclusivity, sayeth thee.

I’m not impressed by other’s material things and don’t seek to impress others with mine. I don’t see the point in renting a Rolex to wear.

I would hate to know what they charge you if you ended up losing your rented watch somehow. Highly doubt it would be anywhere remotely close to retail.

The ONLY ppl that would rent a Rolex is purely for marketing/showing off purposes.

I could see this business taking off for sure. 1000s of ppl renting the watch, making some clips for instagram flex/tiktok Flex with the caption "I'm ballin out of control - just dropped $50k on watches instead of a house deposit"

Click click click - 1000s likes and return the watch the next day. HAHAHHA

Yeah I agree. I think there's enough of a market with the young crowd for some of these to be profitable companies.

Elevenjames was one of them that went out of business a while back.

From a business model standpoint if they get watches at retail, rent then out for a period of time, then sell at a markup a year later 'slightly used' they're winning.

Plus they'd buy enough volume from ADs to get priority for hard to get serials because they'd constantly buy.
