cleaning parts, part II

can any of the pros recommend a solution that i can use to clean parts by hand, that i can access easily and cheaply - like maybe isopropyl, or some kind of alcohol? something i can get at the drugstore.

also, im concerned about not wanting to damage the shellac that holds the pallet lever jewels in place.

as always, any info is greatly appreciated - so please do a good deed and enlighten the benighted.

thanks
