Those who got Daytona from NYC ADs

Quick question. If anyone got Panda Daytona from any NYC/NJ/PA ADs, how many watches (or $$) did you buy before you get Daytona?

Also, how long did you wait for it once your name is on waitlist and which year was it?

If you can share with me, I would very appreciate it.

I think you are trying to find a 'logic' or 'pattern' for the Daytona owners but trust me, it's futile effort. There's no logic or pattern, its AD's own discretion and usually who has enough purchase history at their store, which again be different for different ADs. One thing is that it'll be a long wait, if you have patience you can wait or pay additional amount and purchase from a Trusted seller!

Regardless of what part of the country you are in, (I'm SoCal), you'll have a 2-3 year wait and you'll be purchasing other Rolex watches in the interim, (unless you get lucky, of course).

I built up a nice relationship with my AD over a 2 year plus period and as a result got great models during my wait.........Red SD43, CHNR Two-Tone Root Beer, Batman, Batgirl, Hulk, Sub Date.....all SS Sport/Professional models. On the 4th of July, I got the call and a White Dial, SS/Ceramic Daytona was mine!! I might also mention that twice, in the last 3 years, I have walked into 2 different ADs (other than my preferred one) and picked up other "hot' SS/Professional models........pure luck!

Good luck!!! The hunt is both fun and frustrating....at the end of day, its all about the relationship you are able to develope with your AD!!!

I didn't get the white one, which is what I think you're asking about. I got the black Daytona from the Rolex boutique on 5th Ave. In my experience, the boutique on 5th Ave is the best AD I've ever dealt with, for any brand. They're really knowledgable, friendly, and honest. I had purchased three Rolexes there in the past, and I expressed my interest in the Daytona in January 2017 and it came in July 2017.

However, those were different times. The day I put my name on the list I was actually there to check out the Hulk, which was readily available and sitting in the display case. So I don't think my personal experience is relevant in today's Rolex climate.

The white dial 116500 is not a panda.

Agree, but you’re pushing water uphill trying to educate people on that

Purchase history huh?? I hear this on here all the time but I've bought multiple watches from multiple ADs since 1979, I don't recall ever having had a purchase history as part of new Rolex buying???

I doubt anyone can say for sure what it will take to get a Daytona SS black or white dial from any AD. Spending is the only consistent answer. How much to spend? well that can vary from location to location. Go into the AD you wish to work with and start talking. What can I buy today and get a Daytona? I am sure they will tell you they haven't seen any Daytonas since January 2019 or something to that effect. But if you're willing to buy three pieces today, an 18k piece and maybe a TT datejust , and a SS Daytona, that could be an offer you can make and see where you stand. This is completely a shot in the dark but you got to start talking to the AD and you have to spend some money. Otherwise buying unworn on the secondary market is really a better deal.

Either buy 6 ladies Datejusts with diamond settings, two Day-Date 36s, or write a letter of recommendation to the Dean at Harvard to get the owner's kid in. Rules are rules.

I thought the "Panda" referred to the all white gold Daytona with the white dial and fully dark sub dials. The dial actually looks like a panda's face. The SS white dial does not have the same look at all and certainly does not suggest a panda as the PM piece does.

Every person's experience with the same AD will be different for the same model. I suspect the market for the SS Daytona is tightening not softening so the path to obtaining one at retail is getting steeper and steeper. Past experience of buyers is probably not much help. There is no doubt the right "buyer" could still drop by an AD in NYC or anywhere else and walk out with one with no wait. There are too many personal considerations by an AD in deciding who gets what and when, to come up with any guidance worth putting any trust in.

There is no waitlist for a Daytona. They sell to their big clients. If you have to ask, you are not a big client. Sorry but I am saving you lots of time and heartache

Just one.

I took the owner's daughter out for a nice night on the town.

Do that and you'll have your "it's not a panda" white dial Daytona.

you can get a PM Daytona (white gold) for about $30 grand.

Daytona steel grey market price is around $20-24 grand.

Might be worth exploring the option of going with PM, for a few grand more.

That is if you really want a Daytona.

Correct. The term is often misused by folks with the current SS version with the white dial. Not sure why. It's a nice watch. It doesn't need the additional hype or (inaccurate) connection to the vintage 6263s.

You are getting great advices from fellow members.

There’s no defined rule of wait or path to get Daytona... this is rare and privileged model of Rolex where ADs reserve for their VIP clients or VVIP ones

If you really want it, you should get from reputable gray seller — price is roughly +$10k from MSRP but will save you a lot of heartache and disappointment

I was in Foxwoods Rolex store last year and after purchasing a watch, I inquired about possibility of getting Daytona... simply impossible. Sales people were instructed by casino president when one comes, put it in the safe and notify him. only ‘whales’ have ability to purchase

One AD here in Tampa said 100k minimum spend history to be considered**

**This was all before Covid.

Another AD said they can get one once I buy a few pieces and didn’t give me a dollar amount.

If you are referring to the white dial Daytona, I would not even waste your time. I visited the Rolex boutique last week and asked about that exact watch and got a giant eye roll. The diamond district is now averaging 28-30K for the white dial if they have them in stock, and that is not new.

Got mine from my AD in NJ back in June of 2018 after a 4 month wait. At that time I had only spent less than $30k. I feel like I made a good connection with the sales associate and manager.
