What do you think of the 36mm oyster perpetual blue dayal?

Hi all, I've been reading the forum for a while and looking at a potential everyday Rolex I'd like to know your opinion about a less talked about model: the 36mm oyster perpetual blue dial.

I am curious because I feel it looks out of place with the current OP line: it's of of the few dial with 3-6-9 numerals, and it doesn't have the drop of colour nor the minutes numeral (10, 15, 20, 25 etc...) at the edge of the dial.

My point is, it misses some of the key elements of the new OP line and even the blue shade seem to come from a different era, specifically compared with the blue version of the op 39 that is completely different

I am interested in your opinion: was it forgotten by Rolex or is a conscientious decision to maintain a classic style?
Also, is it a bit passé or still relevant?

I don't think the OP will ever be outdated. The dials are timeless, clean and beautiful.

I do have a marginal preference for the new dial layout but die hard Rolex fans love the 3-6-9 numerals and you'll definitely score points with the WIS community. Not that that should be a factor in your decision making.

It's the original Explorer & Air-King & has the most history, it would be my choice of the three.

I'm a fan of the OP36 with the blue dial. I chose it over the OP39 because I didn't like the green dots. I also like the OP36 for the fact that the dial layout and overall size mimic the original Explorer.

No. OP was introduced in 1931. Hillary/Norgay had OP on Mt. Everest.

I really love that the OP line has such variety in dials, also across sizes.

The blue 3 - 6 - 9 dial is so interesting to me both for the colour and the numerals.
I am looking at something on the 36mm and I hope I get to see the blue OP in person soon. The black 36 would be my other choice as I feel it is also a bit more modern.

What do you think in term of versatility? Is blue more of a sporty choice compared to a black or even white dial?

I think the blue is the sportier choice, yes. The black has my vote, though I’m not sure about the double lumed markers. Difficult choice, but there isn’t a wrong one either!

I agree black is also my frontrunner, but I hope seeing live the blue dial will make me change my mind... a small sporty blue dial OP sound really fancy to me :)
