True. Or, for some - it’s just a tool. A dependable, and durable tool. Not something to obsess over excessively. At least no more than any other piece of gear....

There's an older fellow on the island here who occasionally shows up at the local watering hole. He wears a gold sub. The first time I saw it I immediately asked him and he was happy to tell how he'd rewarded himself with it after a big business win (he's retired now). I've spoken to others and shared my watch with them some seem apprehensive to discuss their watches although I'm not a particularly scary person. I like the high road approach of being open and kind as opposed to introverted and fearful. I'll continue down that road.

Completely agree. That man made a conscious decision to buy one of the most opulent models in the Rolex collection. Buy the Ferrari, get the attention.

I was wearing my SS Sub and I couldn’t take my eyes off of his watch, so I decided to spark up a conversation. I commented "Thats a nice Sub, I have the little brother" and I showed him mine. He looked at mine and then made eye contact with me and covered his watch with his hand and told me to "mind my own business" and walked away! I was like damm I should have just kept my mouth shut.. I felt like an Idiot

Honestly Man, it’s up to you....

But that guy just sounds like a rude person. I’ve complimented people’s watches and I would say about 90% of the time we have a nice conversation about watches

Hahaha, i'm guessing it's one of the above.

He might of been having a bad day but there is really never any need to be rude. Don't wear a gold Rolex if you want to be under cover.

IMO, as people get older their characteristics tend to amplify. You either grow old grumpy or grow old happy (not that he was particularly old). I'm guessing this guy is just a grumpy man and doesn't have good and bad days but that's just me.

I always strike up conversations with strangers (if the opportunity allows) if I spot they have a nice watch on & i've always received a warm welcome.

Wow :(

Evil world we live in. I notice most of the stories on this forum when watches are lost, it is because the owner took it off

Maybe he was wearing a fake. However, being a Canadian, maybe he was just an assho*e America. Why would he or anyone act like that unless they were wearing a fake Rolex?

Yeah, I don't even know what it means.
But that old guy? He sure had it coming!
