Exactly this, wish my SkyD was fitted with a President.

I think it all comes down to the fact that they don't offer it it anything other than PM. If you see someone in a DD you know they are wearing a $30K watch.

I would love to own a DD one day. For now I will just have to suffer with my poor datejust.

Cheers Martin....126300 Rhodium is such a classy understated thing. I had to trade my blue one in so I could afford DD. One day I will get the Rhodium, smooth on jubilee and get my blue one back too. One day!

I’ve never understood it either but to each their own I guess.. just looks little feminine to me and also the fact that they are available at everyday in almost every reference kills the appeal for me.. plus you’ll even get a discount so I really don’t understand either why it’s the “flagship”... at one point of course but now let’s change that!

Isn’t availability and a discount a good thing? I find it nice to actually be able to buy the thing at an AD. I don’t think the 40mm looks feminine, maybe the 36?

It’s just me and I know I’m particular in this sense but DJ and DD just are too feminine for me.. can’t really pinpoint it but I bought a 19k DJ 2 weeks ago and ended up giving it to my Fiancé same day! Regarding the availability, since I don’t like the watch it’s just annoying when that’s all that’s available.. but I oddly enjoy the waiting game for the models I desire! Also I never buy with intention to sell but I do sometimes trade in to upgrade and I don’t want to buy a watch that loses 10k the second I walk out the AD!

If you dont get it then you can move on. Go buy your hyped up SS watches.

If your asking why its the flagship and why its the pinnacle of many watch collectors you are not ready to own one.

Fair play...can’t say I enjoy the waiting game though. I managed to score a few hundred £ profit on the DJ after 13 months, so not too bad!

Ok lol.. I don’t particularly enjoy the waiting game but if every PM watch was always available a would be in quite the predicament! Just spaces it out and makes the purchase a little more special to me if I can get them for special occasions!

In addition to the mechanical and physical aspects of the Day Date line, there is a certain emotional element that can't really be quantified. The luster of the President bracelet and fluted bezel, weight of gold, and the elegant simplicity of the dial layout make it feel like no other watch on the wrist. Not necessarily better but unique to itself. No matter your attire, dressed up or down, you will always feel dressed with a DD on.

Interesting....I think I’m the polar opposite (pun intended!)...I think that maybe tool watches should be in SS and dress watches in PM.
I wouldn’t want to go wreck diving with a PM Sub...that’s for sure!

Nothing wrong with having opinions IMHO!

Yes, I know what you mean. I hate to wear this watch, as all I can think of is how much it looks like a cheap Seiko or Citizen every time I put it on.

But I can't argue they are the Rolex iconic watches and I assume will always be so. Many who aspire to own a Rolex their first choice is the Day Date or Date Just due to its iconic status.
I prefer their sports and professional watches by far but its just my opinion and as someone who's next purchase will likely be a YMll maybe I have a strange tastes when it comes to watches...
you mean as opposed to a sub/gmt which seiko literally copies? lol

If you don’t get it then try one on and see if it does anything for you. Until recently I was never drawn to these but once I tried it on I understood it. The best way I can describe it is if the DJ is a fine suit then the DD is a finely tailored suit.

Thank you. The Sundust Stripe Motif dial is underrated imho. In some lights it draws in the rose, in others it looks silver, and in some it even looks almost translucent as you point out. I’ve been a sports model guy for many years and own / have owned all the popular models, but there is something about the DD. You really have to try it on to appreciate it.

Yeah hostility is not progressive to a good debate. And to each their own, nowt wrong with that. What I didn’t mention is I just read an article on Hodinkee about the 3255 movement and that is a seriously convincing article as to why you should own a DD, shunning the beautiful aesthetics...which I love, you not so much. The engineering is out of this world, so much so my brain started to hurt! Having a crack and I believe succeeding against the co axial movement is quite some achievement. To close, Denver me old Bud....check out the photo of my RG Olive in this thread...how can that not do something to your pulse!?

New DD Models?

Does anyone think there will be new DDs at the September Baselworld? I sure would like to see some more face types on the platinum models. On some I like the dial color, but it has the wrong numerals (Romans, diamonds etc.). I've tried to like the ice blue diagonal cross hatching model but I keep coming back to being annoyed with the cross hatching. I would prefer more plain blue face with variations on the rest of the watch.

Well put so eloquently I will have to check it out! Not every dial/ reference makes me feel that way and especially with a diamond bezel changes my mind!
