Icon14 Negotiating at AD, Jaeger Le Coultre

Hello

Planning to go to buy my first watch at an AD ever soon, I already own a couple timepieces. But never bought from an AD, planning to go in and buy a Jaeger Le Coultre Ultra Thin Moonphase in steel with either the grey or silver dial and would like to have the AD experience for ones.

Now my question is, will I be able to negotiate and what percentage should I keep in mind when negotiating? This is a multibrand store that I'm visiting and I have the cash ready, let me know and if you have any tips and tricks. Please let me know

Thank you

10% should be minimum. I was given about 10.3% off my Reverso (pre-tax) just by asking; probably could have done better but I was overall happy with the service and opted not to push for more. Two days later I saw JLC bumped the price by $200, so my discount effectively became 13.2%

The more expensive the watch, the more room they probably have to work with so I'd suggest aiming for 20% and hopefully you end up with at least 15%.

Good luck, that's an awesome watch

Happened to get 25% off a JLC master control sector chronograph a year ago. But, I'd agree with others, 20% off sounds fair.

Just ask the AD if it’s possible to discount the watch. If you are paying in cash, a larger discount may occur. Good luck! 10-20% off sounds right.

20% to 25% should be the norm. They aren't hot sellers. But still be prepared to take a hit if you want to sell it again even with 25% discount.

I never mention anything about cash during negotiation. When we have a deal and i have credit card in hand I casually mention I am currently getting a 2% rebate back on this card (regardless of the rate I am actually getting). I then offer if you would rather give a 3% cash discount and save your processing fees that is fine with me. On most non Rolex watches or other items they take the cash. On the Rolex watches they have always told me price is the same cash or credit card so I pay with the credit card.

Just ask “how much” - not “if” - discount is possible. MSRP is for those who don’t know the system (Rolex watches excluded), and they will take no offence if you do know. If the salesperson (or shop policy) is greedy and demands full price, just shrug and walk away. Then it’s clearly not the right place for major purchases.

I guess the amount depends on where you live (15% is standard in my country and 20% possible to find on some brands).

Good work.

I think I got 22% off a Reverso a few years ago.

Things have to be pretty loose now with the pandemic.

Quoted from Jaeger-LeCoultre User Manual:

"...The Jaeger-LeCoultre Limited Warranty is valid only if the warranty certificate enclosed with this booklet has been duly completed, dated, stamped, and signed by the authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer or the Jaeger-LeCoultre Boutique, which sold you your watch..."

Not sure if someone buy a brand new JLC from grey will have factory warranty?

I don’t believe you can get the stainless steel moonphase in grey face. That is a white gold version of the same watch. Happy to be corrected though...

I handled both last year and the the grey face one is head and shoulders above for me. Sadly so is the price.....

Negotiating at AD, Jaeger Le Coultre

I just bought the same brand new (with stickers) from a trusted seller here on the forum. Good deal, about 18% off and also got a fair trade for an older watch of mine. I then went and successfully registered for the extended 8-year warranty yesterday.

It’s a great watch, classic. You’ll love it!

That said, you should expect to get at least 10-15% off from an AD. I was talking to mine about it but went grey because of the trade (and taxes).
