Finally Got Friend to Sell 16570

I have been trying to get this watch for years. My friend bought it in 1994 and has decided to downsize some what. The good side is that he gave me what I consider a very good price, the bad side is that it has never been serviced so off to the shop tomorrow for a service.

That's a lovely patina. It goes without saying, but no service hands or dials!

If it's still running I'd wear it for a week or so before service, just to enjoy it haha

Congrats on the purchase, its a nice full set.

You mentioned it was never serviced....out of curiosity, did the previous owner had it polished at some point?!

I use an independent watchmaker and he dosen't believe in replacement of dials and hands.

It has never been polished, and as long as I own it it never will be.

The 1st generation of Explorer 2 was born at 1971, ref: 1655. The 2nd generation at 1988, ref: 16550 (2 years only). On both generations, the color of the index will change as time goes by.

Starting from 1990, Rolex made the 3rd generation, ref: 16570. The color of the index will not change (my friend has one).

Therefore, in terms of re-sale value, the 16550 is the most valuable verison, because of it's limited production.

I never cared for the 216570 because the size and proportions seemed wrong. That's just me. Once I saw the 16570, however, I had to have one. So simple and understated, but a total workhorse. You'll love wearing it. Congrats!
