I own a PM Daytona with bracelet and really like the OF, but I think if I got to that point and was close to pulling the trigger on the OF I would end up leveling up to all gold. It's just not that much more.

Had the OF and ended up selling it and obtaining a DD. Great watch but ultimately needed a bracelet.

I wonder if the PM will be updated to ceramic bezels during the next release. That would probably sway my opinion.

Been through this; wearing first a full gold Daytona, then a DD40 and, recently, a Yachtmaster 42 with Oysterflex.
The full gold bracelet is lovely, especially the President on the DD. But, paired with the right design (crucial) the Oysterflex is also very effective . And it seems to sit better on the wrist, not sliding around as easily as the heavy gold bracelets.
The full gold bracelet will always endure, and the Oysterflex may be driven by current fashion, but it’s still a clever and likeable design.

I had this same thought process when trying to decide because I really wanted a YG Daytona on black rubber but couldn't justify the price difference.

In the secondary market you will pay 30k for an Oysterflex model but can snag a PM for around 33K-34k

While the oysterflex strap will not fit a PM model, as already mentioned, the other option was get an aftermarket strap such as Rubber B or Everest for about $250 and now you get the best of both worlds.

Visually, though, a full PM Daytona and an OF Daytona look and feel VERY different on the wrist. It has less to do with the strap and more to do with the bezel. Night and day, really.

Surprised that so many guys think these two versions of Daytonas are virtually the same, but just with different straps/bracelets. Not the case at all.

Also, the aftermarket rubber straps can work on the full PM versions, of course, but they're quite a different feel and look compared to the Oysterflex. And the key (again visually), is how the black rubber plays off of the black ceramic bezel on the OF versions. You don't get that on the full PM versions, nor would you get it if you just put one on a Rubber B or Everest.

Obviously I am biased and spent my money on what I like best, but i don't think a Rubber B or Everest gives you the best of both worlds. Still totally different looks.

Has Rolex ever gone from PM bezel to ceramic? Sub and GMT went from aluminum to ceramic. Steel Daytona went from steel bezels to ceramic. But gold to ceramic?

It all comes down to the look and feel of the watch. The OF Daytonas with black ceramic bezels just look a lot better, IMHO, but it's subjective, of course.

It's not about value or how much raw gold costs, or whatever. It's about which watch do you like better on your wrist.

If we were breaking down cost/value of metal, then the SS version of the Daytona is obscenely overpriced, because steel ain't that expensive. But it's the look of the watch you're paying (or over-paying) for, even if you were lucky enough to buy one at retail.
Well said. I own both, but you can't place value solely on the amount of PM in the watch. In that case, why even buy a Rolex?

I chose the OF because of the look of the ceramic bezel, the reduced weight, and feel of wearing a more sportier watch.

I own a Platinum and an Oysterflex Daytona. I love them both, but I wear the OF more often. It's lighter on the wrist, and I really love the combination of colors (I got the white gold version).
