Absolutely love my DJ II. It was the first Rolex in my modest collection and was an anniversary gift for our 20th. The DJ 41 had just been released and I actually preferred the look and proportions of the DJ II over the 41. Still do. Got lucky and caught the last one my AD had among a sea of new 41’s. Value or future value doesn’t really play into any equation for me as I have never gotten rid of a watch. Enjoy it and wear it in great health!!

You can never have enough DJ2’s. Picked up the silver dial NOS only last month. You can see it’s fitted with an error cyclops which is about right as it’s a 2016 model year. All the others are final year of production. See how the date window on the silver dial looks smaller compared to the blue dial next to it.

Beautiful collection! Curious what is an error cyclops? Magnification being slightly off?

I love the dome bezel!

Yep, that’s it. Fitted to all manor of references back in 2016. Nothing seemed immune. I may get it swapped out before the warranty expires on the watch, but actually I’m not bothered by it.
I’m sure one day, some unscrupulous seller would use something like that to inflate the asking price.

Picture of mine below. I purchased it as my first Rolex so it has a bit of sentiment. I have since purchased a BLNR and a Zenith 38mm EP. After wearing these the DJII feels fairly large. I think it fits me OK but it's definitely on the borderline.

Anyways, I just wanted to get thoughts on here as I'm considering selling but I'm on the fence about it. TIA!
Love my Datejust II. I actually went to try on a DJ41 on two different occasions because I was considering selling mine and moving over to the 41 because I liked the idea of the longer power reserve and jubilee bracelet.

Both times I came to the realization that the II is just perfect for me. Even my wife agreed and said the 41 just looked a little small and less striking.

I've had this watch six years now and love it more each year. Hold onto it. They are getting hard to find so if you want to pick up the blue deuce later on it will be more difficult and more expensive. Mine isn't going anywhere. Love the larger size and those beautiful large batons. It will be regarded as a classic down the road I'm betting.

Here's my baby

The Datejust II is stunning in a way that the DJ41 "just isn't quite".

So I have the 41, fluted, jubilee, sticks, blue dial. To me this is more dressier than the II. But that is what I specifically wanted out of the watch. If I wanted it more sportier, more wrist presence, I totally get the attraction of the II. I have the 114060 so I feel the 41 is a great complement.

Love mine, will never go anywhere! Love the wide batons, large size, proven workhorse easily serviceable mvmt.

The 41 felt dainty in comparison imho.

Exactly why I got the 41, more for dress and more similar to the original datejust style.

General Consensus on DJII?

I went from BNIB DJII (116300) to a BNIB DJ41(126334) and after 1,5 year rapidly back to the (116334-> which I sold last month) and 116333.
FWIW -> DJ41 went two times, under warranty, back to Rolex AD for repair and still not running within specs/ loosing time.
Never had any problems with the (silent) DJII movements.

I didn’t buy the DJ 41 because it looked small on my wrist or at least to my eyes.
Never tried a DJ2, It May have been perfect for me.

I think it looks too large for a DJ, but you could handle that size for a diver. But leaving aside the size, the DJ II doesn't have the same pleasant proportions as the original.

The DJ2 always looked chunky to me and therefore never liked it.. I think rolex realized this and made adjustments ... hence the DJ41, which i think is spectacular.

Among the very first things I learned on TRF is that there is no such thing as a general consensus on the Datejust II.

I think it will be considered an interesting outlier eventually - loved my many, shunned by many more.

Cheers

DJ II was a great introduction of a larger case. I bought mine simply because I wanted another watch with a large case to compliment my BLNR. At the time (2016), DJ II was the the only option made with the dial and bracelet I wanted.

So far, there has not been a DJ41 made with the same dial.

For me, it is a collectible.

I am still hoping one day to add a large case Day Date to my collection, and as I've looked back at what was available in the DD II line (because I was hoping to have the same case and bezel size as the DJ II), there is no dial that I like.

As I go forward, if I do end up buying a Day Date, it will end up being a DD40, since that will be the case size available when a dial is made that I want.
