2020 Hulk serial numbers matching earlier prefix
Hi,
I just picked a 2020 June Rolex 116610LV "Hulk" with a serial number starting with V******, the watch maker verified it and surprisingly dated it circa 2008 prior to checking the warranty card which is June 2020. Interesting that Rolex have restarted their serial numbers using earlier prefixed alphabetic code. Can anyone shed some facts on this? And does this impact the collectability of this watch? |

It’s an 8 digit scrambled serial number that just so happens to start with V. If it was a V from 2008 (actually 2009-10) it would have only 7 digits.

Yes, for a total of 8 digits. The V has nothing to do with when it was produced in this case, it’s totally random. The V in your case is just coincidental. Again, a V from 2009 would have only 7 digits total in the number. Yours has 8 all together, it’s perfectly normal and does nothing to add or detract from its value.

I’m making it sound more difficult than it is. I’m counting the V as a digit, I should be more specific ......it’s the letter V plus 7 numbers that makes it scrambled. The older non scrambled serial number starting with V and followed by 6 numbers is a 2009.

Yep, random serial numbers are totally random, any amount of 8 mixed numbers and letters in any order, although I've never heard of any reversed of yours with 7 letters and 1 number.

Before they ran through the alphabet starting in 1987, they started their serial numbers with (gasp) numbers... and there are only 10 of those, so they re-used them a lot. 8 characters, letters or numbers, is the newest serial format, which could begin with any letter or number - even a V.

Some of mine (newer models) start with numbers, but others start with an M, K and S. |
