Lume Question!

Good TRF Luminaries,

Does anyone know if the pink luminous indexes and 3-6-9 on this OP actually glow pink?

Please illuminate me!

Thanks,

No depending on age either green or more on the blue spectrum.

Thanks both ... disappointing—but still, what a great dial!

Any idea if the hands and indices glow the same color or not? Can’t find a lime shot online ...

The current strontium aluminate composition that Rolex uses luminates a blue hue. As peter mentioned, the previous non in house product was green.

Companies will alter the composition by adding pigments to change the color of the lume paint in its non glowing state to fit the color scheme of the watch design. Example “fauxtina”.

The color of the “glow” of the lume however is determined by the strontium aluminate composition.

Luminover is made by Nemoto a Japanese luminous paint maker they moved a part of its factory from Japan to Switzerland in 1998 in Joint-ventured with RC-Tritec AG.This was to establish Luminova AG Switzerland for supplying Luminova to all the Swiss watch industry including Rolex and most all of the other major brands. The new more on the blue spectrum Chromolight is a Rolex trademark made up name, but again this could be a special colour blend of luminous paint by Nemoto for Rolex, I would doubt if Rolex themselves would make the lume paint.Much like the other parts they outsource like the movement synthetic ruby bearings and cap jewel bearings,crystals,spring-bars,mainsprings made by Schwab-Feller AG , all screws movement and bracelet screws outsourced, and a firm called Aiguilles makes all the watch hands for all models.

I agree with you Peter but there are those that believe Chromalight is some magic fairy dust.
