2 for 2!

They are out there...

Last summer my wife and I traveled to Switzerland for short vacation with friends. We visited several of the go to cities, Bern, Lucerne, ect..and had an absolute ball. The people, the food, and of course the scenery are just stunning!
Now being a self proclaimed WIS and in the heartland of watch making, I felt obligated to stop at every watch store and AD to have a look. However, I did have ulterior motives and was seeking a Black Bay 58, which were hard to find in the US without being placed on the dreaded "List." I asked every AD if they had a Black Bay 58, and the answer was always "no, they are difficult to get in Switzerland ". Not deterred, I continued my quest and came across a small store during a late night walk (later discovered it was owned by Bucherer). I told the wife I wanted to stop by in the morning to see what they have. 11am the next morning we walked into the store and were greeted by a very friendly sales associate, Franco. I walked around admiring the selection and eventually made it to the Tudor case. Gazing over the vast collection, I spied a Black Bay 58 on bracelet. Bingo! I say to the SA, " I cant believe you have this in stock" He replied "Neither can I" "would you like to try in on?" 45 minutes later I walked out the door with it. The SA was fantastic to deal with and even gave me a 5% discount!

Fast forward to earlier this month...

The wife and I walked into one of our local ADs looking for an Explorer 214270 for an end of the year retirement gift to myself, well from the wife. I decided on the Explorer 1 for the, goes with everything, will not go out of style, never gonna sell this watch, watch. In preparing for a long wait, I figured we better start looking now so I could possibly have it on my actual retirement date. We were contacted by a very nice sales associate and asked specifically what watch I was looking for. I said "an Explorer". She asked "which one?. i paused for a moment, being so focus on on the explorer 1, I thought what kind of question is that? Oh yeah, explorer 2, duh.... I said, "39 mm, I know they are hard to get , but looking to have it by the end of the year" My wife then chimes in and says "It's a retirement gift" The SA asks, "Do you live local?" Yes. "Humm, hold on" The SA walks into he back room, is gone for a few minutes, and walks out with a brand spankin' new Explorer 39! I said, really? She replied, "Yup, you're local and we would love for you to have it for retirement". Ironically it was also our anniversary that day.
Not sure if this was dumb luck or the AD keeping stock in the back to avoid flippers, but it worked out.

As far as the 2 for 2, the wife says its Karma (maybe not ) and she's my good luck charm. Well, that part might be true.

Now, I know these aren't a Daytona or Pepsi, but I'm sure some of you have similar "I can't believe you have this in stock" stories, and I would love to hear them.

Isn't this hobby just wonderful?
