I'm honestly not surprised by the response of the AD. Obviously preferential treatment will be given to certain loyal customers or to customers that has created a good relationship with the AD... thus the drama of waiting on a list despite being 1 minute late...

Doesn’t that risk their AD status?
ADs know exactly who there VIPs clients are and they know their likes and dislikes. Otherwise ADs wouldn't be doing their job (besides selling watches).

in ADs' mind they've already placed the VIPs on their list prior to any announcements.

because ADs know if VIPs call asking they will be able to serve them and make them feel special (and hopefully buy more) "no worries I got you on the list already" or "you don't like? no worries" - because they can sell it easily

So no risk. no leaked information

+1

VIPs don't line up
VIPs don't call
VIPs will just expect to be on the list and will be looked after by their ADs

DavidSW will have all the new Subs listed very soon. Likely at a very onerous markup. Pay to play or cry all the way home limp wristed.

Meaning it is a nice way to get you off since there is not “big spenders”

AD will buy it and sell it for double.

FFS, Rolex is just like Porsche. When the new special editions come out, if you’re not on their top-tier supersecret list of super special buyers, you’re not getting it unless you buy one from a gray dealer.

Hi I’m calling about the GT4.

They’ve all been sold.

They haven’t gone on sale yet.

Yes.

I have to believe this is true with the majority of ADs.

My guy actually called this morning to discuss new releases. We were talking about the event a week or two ago and I told him what I would / wouldn't be interested in, all on the assumption these were hypotheticals. When we spoke this morning he called to double check that the green sub is what I wanted. Said they were very busy yesterday/today taking non-stop inbound phone calls while reaching out to valued, existing customers to see what they wanted from the new releases.

I am just glad to see new supply is already hitting stores. I know I won't be getting one of the very first ones, but glad to see it's not going to be months until those start reaching ADs.

I don’t know, I’m a long time DavidSW customer and have noticed his stock go down.

The new Kermit is smok’n hot; even the greys will have trouble getting their hands on it. I wouldn’t be surprised if investors swoop in and ask 3x retail.

Bark and Jack did a video where Adrian had a theory that investors where buying up all the Explorers to control the market. That could happen to the new Kermit, too.

Yes.

Correct. 1000% correct. We love a free market society...until we personally don't benefit from it. It's much cheaper for a company or brand to sell to known entities rather than chase new dollars and customers. Not one person on this forum would say no if offered a business model in where every item that business sold was pre-sold before it even got to the floor.

Rolex has zero incentive to change or police any practices as long as their VIP's (which is probably 70% of their business) are happy and keep buying. No one, including myself, have to agree with Rolex's policies , how they handle ADs , grey market, etc. Only way to possibly get change is to vote with your feet and that doesn't seem to be happening...and Rolex's checks keep clearing.

I think sometimes we lose sight of the fact we are buying or collecting a luxury brand, not Fiats (no offense to Fiat owners). Once you enter that luxury realm, at whatever level, there is always going to be a bigger fish that will get theirs first.

Only saying this to illustrate a point: My father-in-law is what I would consider a VIP for both our Rolex AD and our Porsche dealer (I luckily am an enthusiast of both and get to reap some of the benefits). I'd say 75-125k/year at AD and over 1.5M at Porsche lifetime. They will take care of a customer like that on the spot every day of the week over the feel good story, the special occasion purchase, or the one and done buyer. They will take a watch that was allocated for someone lower down on the list and give it to them with just a text or a call. It's just the harsh reality. I've been on both sides of this so trust me when I say I empathize!!

And.... the cherry on top is that he isn't even NEAR the top of the allocation lists and we aren't in a major city like LA, NYC, Chicago. Think 250k-500k+ spend at an AD and you still won't get a call for something ultra rare like a Rainbow Daytona. You'll simply get the hot watches you want. You can thank John Mayer for this

Play the game , wait very patiently, or go grey if it makes fiscal sense!!!

I’m not very optimistic that I’ll get a call!
Yup, all depends how well they know/like you, and what your purchase history is like.

Their VIPs will have been whatsapping their store contacts from the night before

I don't think anyone knew or had the inside line. I doubt Rolex leaks that stuff. I do think that ALL AD's just "have a list" and it doesn't really matter what new model comes out it is going to go to their "list" first. I am confident most on that "list" are the grey dealers first.
