Funny, I just went into my AD this afternoon and paid for a OP36 Turquoise Dial, can't wait for it to arrive, but the sales associate helping me asked if it was for my wife. I politely said if she wants to wear it she can, but it is for me haha.

I for one am excited for the rebirth of some fun colors in the OP/DJ line

I like the colors. The OP line makes sense to add colors, they did it with the olive or grape ones before and the little extra color splashed in on the squares over the indexes. The colors are fun regardless of gender.

I also like the updated case shape, ez link, blue lume, and updated movement. All great improvements.

But why did they ruin these by removing the 39mm size (the perfect size for most people even though I prefer the 36 due to my small wrists) and adding the ugly double indexes to every watch? Its like they saw the white and black 39mm OPs being the most popular OP models and said lets go in the exact opposite direction. Why?

In the last 12m, I have indeed purchased for myself an OP... as well as a new Sub, 2 GMTs, a RG YM, and a PP Aquanaut.

Cudos to you Queen of Subs! Best of luck with the baby and get as much sleep as you can now! So do tell us your thoughts on the new color OPs??

When I see the new OP colors I can't help but think about the Van Cleef jewelries my wife collects. Maybe it's just me but recent trends seems like that women are shying away from watches nowadays and shift more on bracelets such as cartier and VCA. Maybe this move will attract them back to watches, hence the updated 31mm datejust and colorful OP's. Rolex will always have men lining up for their sports model, they need the women back to regain the lost sales from lady datejust.

All fine and dandy but having to tell strangers on the interwebz. That's a bit cringeworthy.

Terrific advice ... and even better question! For the most part I do like them, although several may be tough for me to have as a one & only. Personally I probably preferred some of the previous OP 39 colors but those had more design overlap with Datejusts, so I think smart of Rolex to differentiate the two models more. Don’t know if I’ll buy one but I gotta say... that yellow in the summer with a tan - it’s just fun :)

Great work by Rolex here. I’m a fan.
This exactly! Most of these colors (other than the Tiffany blue) are not for me but these are fun to look at and talk about and that's what this hobby is all about.

Thanks for your thoughts, and I agree. Rolex isn't targeting women with these watches, way too broad a brush to paint an entire gender. They are targeting people who like color, fun, and might be looking to get into the brand. (This was me before I hit 40 and got old.)

BTW, your future child is doomed to be a WIS! Get them started early!

I thought the exact same thing.

I showed my wife the new line up. Her only disappointment is that the OP41 doesn't come in pink so she wants the Turquoise blue instead.

I am torn on one myself, between the Yellow or the Silver dial.

I don’t agree with everything mentioned in this thread.
There is a lot of intelligent women working in medicine, law, finance, consulting etc who just don’t care about watches.

The new line of OPs is aimed at people who are looking for more colour, at a very attractive price point(Rolex wise).

Look around your office even before COVID. I saw people all wearing apple watches with brightly coloured straps. The formal dress code of suites and ties is dying out. Business casual is in. No need any more for the suit and dress watch.

AP has been adding colour for years look at the offshore collection huge amount of colour variation.

This now a great option to attract new customers to the brand. My girlfriend in her late twenties and is in medicine. She never liked Rolex, other than it was Rolex and a status symbol. She didn’t like the DJ TT on jubilee which every AD would show her first.

After showing her the new OPs especially the turquoise and green dials. She really likes the watches and for the first time said that’s really nice watch.

I agree. When my wife tried out the PAM Due model which has 50m water resistance, I was rather concerned with the water resistant rating. But she was not. She was more interested with the design, color combination and other aesthetic elements. So there you go.

Agree on the yellow looks like a great beach watch color but have to see it on the wrist.

AP seems to avoid the Swatch link with their multi-coloured Offshore range. Load of nonsense.
