Rather late than never

I turned 40 in April and the plan was to add a Datejust to the collection as a gift to myself. Things didn't quite work out that way, but I was able to add a birth month/year Seiko 6309 from April 1980.

I still wanted a DJ in my collection. While a 36mm watch just always seemed too small if you are used to dive watches, I tried a few vintage Datejusts on and really liked the look and feel. I ended up buying a 1965/66 1601 from a fellow WIS and I love it to bits. No lume dial, service hands and a jubilee with lots of life left in it. As a daily wearer it is just perfect. Now if I put on any of my dive watches they feel HUGE. With all the new incomings I thought I would throw in a belated vintage incoming.

I'm a big fan of Seiko watches. Still have the Seikos my Dad wore.

The old school 36mm Datejusts are timeless classics. I have a TT with Jubilee dial and fluted bezel.

Congrats on your 1601.
Great choice. My first Rolex was a 1966 1603, bought in 2010, and like yours still looks as good today as when it was made...and super comfortable!

Beautiful choice and belated happy returns. My first Rolex was a TT 1980’s DJ with a black tapestry dial on jubilee. I still miss it.

I missed out on a tapestry dial, but hoping one will pop up again. I am enjoying the 1601 so much, I wouldn't mind adding another dial colour or two.
