What exactly is a bevel (edges)?
I was just reading the whole DRSD thread on the watchtech, and the word bevel kept coming up. Can someone explain that to me and/or attach a picture. Thanks.

I know everyone calls it a beveled edge but it is actually a chamfered edge.

I addressed this matter in a recent post, which may be is of your interest: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=136609 I love the bevels in vintage sports models, specially Submariners, and would like Rolex maintained this feature in their present made line. Cordial regards, Abel.

Wondering if thin bevels (circa 1990s sub) disappear over time through wear and tear? (No polishing)

Picture below my very late 1999 SD seen more use and abuse than most of today's pampered watches will see in ten life times.Used as a proper working tool for many years with well over 600 hours underwater and got a lot of working as a tool watch scratches .And has been serviced and polished by 3 different RSC world wide and still looks good today with only one insert replacement cost then just £25 and a 5 minute DIY change. . Its called the chamfered edge
