Would you rather have a

Modern Sub or a vintage (1680 here) with service replacement parts?

Depends on how they fit you but if the vintage piece has service parts galore (or its your only watch) I would lean modern.

To wear, modern gets my vote.

To collect, both get my vote.

I give the slight edge to the modern sub on looks, durability, and comfort of wear.

Modern, like the look better, ceramic, bracelet, warranty, movement, etc.

old or new

I would say it is a verytough choice but I would go modern because of durability, accuracy and longer service intervals. In reality the parts availability is a big deal fore me. I don't like dealing with those problems. I owned an old Tudor Sub and had a hell of a time getting it serviced.

Would pick the modern over the vintage if I had to only pick one.

I’m going backwards in size these days.

I like the proportions of the vintage more. 16800 especially, transitional from early 80s

Would definitely miss the modern bracelet however! That’s why I love the bb58

1680 everyday, all day, and twice e on Sunday.

Buy the new one too if you want to splash around in the pool and not be naked.

Either or both as they are equally awesome.

I love the 1680, I had one for a few years and it was great. But in the end I prefer modern watches for the care-free wearing and ease of servicing.

vintage submariners really aren't that impressive looking in person. Very rarely do I see one and think wow that looks like an expensive/nice watch. The WG surround Rolexes have always looked nicer IMO and if I had to plop money down for one at this point, i'd go modern. When the prices were much closer in comparison for a new model vs original vintage, I would've gone vintage though.

A vintage piece that already has service parts means you can wear it, service it, and enjoy it, and not stick in the safe. Modern watch same thing wear it service it.
