I think it depends on the watch in question and the AD. By in large, I would say they are more made up than real.

I'm sure there are lists but who really knows how the order is kept or manipulated.

Yes, it is real.
Your AD is making a list,
He's checking it twice,
He's gonna find out who's naughty or nice....

Thanks! Awesome yours came so quickly. I ordered from a smaller AD here in NYC and they got the 41s last Fri but no 36 yet.

Hoping I am covered by the first wave of the supply. I am new to Rolex but honestly didn't expect to wait so long for a watch everyone said was pretty accessible; seems like their strategy with the OPs shifted even before the 2020 updates.

I'm sure the really big spenders get preferential treatment, maybe in the form of being on a list.

On a different note, I was told yesterday they don't even anticipate seeing any new models until at least February at the very earliest. She then laughed and pointed to 4 Rolex display cases that contained a total of 2 watches.
no new models until Feb 2021? that's crazy

They only put on the list the people they like, so everyone else is not really on the list.
t t.
My reason for getting me the watches in collection , see below:

1) They like me and know not a flipper, but enthusiast with an eye.
2) Never pushy or calling all the time.
3)Have accepted my orders, never decline.
4) Bought Patek and Rolex and straps for my Cartier and other watches,

They knew , early on l, that I send thank you personal follow-up notes, always to Manager and SA get a little gift as gesture of true appreciation, same day I pick up the new watch. They always say is not necessary, but kindly thank me. I send them a week or so later photos of my wrist and sharing reactions from friends, family and other anecdotes...

So advise, buy a DJ, get the wife a present, be nice and wait a few months, and then share the one watch you want and see what they say then you know if changes are good.

Best of luck to all

I witnessed my name being recorded in a book at an AD, but I think the guy was blowing smoke up my butt. I went grey.

Every AD is different. Ones I know and use, the list is non existent. List is interest only. They sell to those who make their pockets deeper.

Any thoughts? Are the AD lists BS?

Versus just paying crazy market value for a new black Sub on Chrono. Overall would be out less money but not by much. 🤔
What have you bought in the 1.5 years of waiting?
If nothing, you’ll likely continue to wait, and maybe grey should be your route

Is deposit just a sign of more serious intent on your part, and a wise dealer would not allow placing one if they felt unable to fulfill?
Again, this varies by AD and customer. I paid a deposit for the first few watches I bought from my AD which were not available in the shop to buy. For the last two they said no deposit was required.

It all depends on how the AD runs their business!!!

It is not a list in the typical thought of a list when providing watches to customers. It is not first down, first to get a watch. If anyone tells you that they are either not being straight with you or you are a super whale and can get what ever you want anyway. With no checks or accountability on the AD's they typically can say or do what they want. That does not sit well with me and I do a lot of business with my AD. I buy all of my Rolex watches from our Trusted Sellers and work for a fair market price. The service is better and I do not have to wait. Do I pay more for the watches, sure, but it is market value and I do not have to play games and wait for my AD to deem me worthy of a watch. Do some research on our Trusted Sellers and visit their websites and get a feel for what they have. Cross reference prices with each other and Chrono24 and then call and ask questions and negotiate the best price you can get. Buy your watch and get on with the ownership experience. Don't play silly AD games.
