Should I get an appraisel of my Tudor BB 58 from AD?
I got this email from the lady at the AD who sold me my new Tudor BB 58:
"Happy New Year to you! How is your TUDOR watch? Would you like an appraisal for insurance purposes?" I hadn't thought about this before because this is the first watch I have bought that is worth more than a couple hundred dollars. Should I insure it? Do I need an appraisal if I already have a sales receipt? Does it cost money to get an appraisal from the AD I just bought the watch from? Any advice you could give this newbie would really be appreciated. |

How long ago was the purchase? Most insurance carriers will accept a store receipt within one year period. Most ADs do appraisals as complimentary with a purchase. Is a $4k loss significant to you? If so, then get it insured.

She might be building rapport and that was the easiest way to do so. She may have another watch to sell you... (not a bad thing).
I think insurance is a good idea - might as well start the habit now so it becomes easier to add to your policy when you get your next nice watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'd def get the appraisal and the insurance. It should be pretty cheap too, probably under $200 per year.

Have you looked into the HODINKEE insurance? Just fill outthe info and upload a pic of your watch and they give you an estimate instantly. Most likely under $120 a year for that watch.

If peace of mind is something you value then getting it appraised for insurance purposes is pretty much a no brainer.
I pay less than 1% the value of insured item through jewelers mutual. Not sure what the rates are these days. |

I get my appraisal from local watchmaker free. But again I always go there for servicing.

I have all mine insured threw Jewelers mutual. New Rolex is a $80 premium per year 0 deductible and great coverage. Easy to do on line.

I use Jewelers Mutual as well and just sent a picture of watch and receipt. Only reason why I would get an appraisal of such a new watch is if there was the possibility of a new watch waiting for me at my AD.
