Best way to send a watch UK?

Hey all,

What's the best way to send a watch out to in the UK? I'm in the UK too but we're about 300 mile's away from each other.

I'm also sending the watch out to a dealer who has paid a deposit, the dealer is fairly trusted but would you ask for all the money up front? The dealer has left about a 5% deposit and the rest upon delivery....

I received a watch over 30K from the UK to NL via Royal Mail

Royal mail special delivery is awesome. I think it's either insured up to £2.5k or £5k?
Take pictures or video of it being wrapped and sent and keep proof of postage ,(receipt). Most dealers in this situation will use their own insurance on the watch while in transit.
U can even pay a bit more for 9am delivery but pls remember due to covid 9am delivery can be up to 11am and the normal 1pm special delivery time is now up to 3pm! And there is no signature at the moment either so the postie should hand over in person and not leave in a safe place (porch)

Just a warning if you under insure ie use the £2500 and the watch is worth more Royal Mail won’t pay out. So if you insure separately just stick with the basic amount. Third party insurance on top. Also the third party insurance stipulates that you can’t mention anywhere what’s inside the box or they will not cover you.

My mate recently sent two of his watches via Fedex to a watch dealer just after Christmas. No problems and received money in the bank 48hrs later.

You do but that is basically a check for their own insurance and to check it isn’t on the prohibited items list. Declare it as something of minimal value with a caveat that you check with the third party insurer though how it goes if you declare something of less value when posting.

RM is only up to £2,500 and if the watch is worth more then they won’t pay out anything.

I’d do RM though special delivery as it’s reliable and Secursus which a lot of U.K. people use.

Just a word of warning, last November I sent my Rolex via SD to a known second hand online dealer and it has disappeared. Very securely packed and insured up to 2.5k, i sent it in November and the tracking has not updated since so it does and can happen. Being naive and new to this i didnt know about Secursus when i sent it- would hate for someone else to go through this :( I have learnt a very painful, stressful and expensive lesson.
