Can someone pls explain GS prices
I have a nearby GS AD. They discount GS. They have tons of stock.
I look online at pieces and see tons of stuff listed over retail. I am perplexed by this. For example, SGBA259, GS Golden Snowflake, goes for over $6k on the used sites. It is MSRP $5,800. Maybe I could get it without the tax, or even less. I don't know. What is going on here? Do certain current models actually sell above MSRP? This isn't Rolex right? Shame if that's the case now. FWIW, I just own a SBGA211, love it, total icon in my opinion. Traded a vintage Rolex 6694 Oysterdate Precision plus cash to get into it. Thanks in advance. |

The brand is gaining ground very quickly in the playing field. So yes there are definitely discontinued/harder to get LE's that's either quantity limited/region limited (or both) that sells for a premium.

Depends on the reference, but yes, some Grand Seikos are hard to get and sell above retail on the secondary market, especially LEs like the so-called blue "Whirlpool," SBGH267. Forget pricing. You just can't find them at all anymore.
The pink "Spring" edition of the U.S.-only "Four Seasons" line is another example, and that's not even a limited edition, although the entire line is supposed to be "limited production," whatever that means. You should be able to get AD discounts on certain GS models, but not much any more. And nothing off at boutiques. Times are changing with Grand Seiko, and so are the prices on the secondary market. |

Agree. Grand Seiko is a brand on the move. Many references, especially limited editions, are in high demand and prices are reflecting that demand

Feels like there's pressure on this brand to trade similar to Rolex on the secondary market, but if a watch is on premise, then the opportunity for discount exists.

In keeping up with GS and several other lines and LE's within the Seiko/Grand Seiko brands it is sometimes difficult to follow or understand. Some models will be discounted depending on the AD. Other models will sell for msrp and significantly more on the used market. Sometimes pieces are hot for a minute and then fall off and sometimes it is the other way around. Mix in a marketing campaign that is at best confusing and overlapping between models, GS/LX Divers as an example. And you have a true challenge figuring it out. I have really given up on trying to figure it out and just focus on what I want and where it fits into my collection.

I am not sure why you are surprised!!!
Great movements, amazing dials with the best attention to detail, spring drive or high beat with accuracy of 1+/- second a month, yeah a month , it’s not a typo! |

It is crazy. from a retailer end, I see clients come in today that last year or two years ago would have passed by GS to look at the 11 other brands we have. Now these same clients are walking out the door with Grand Seiko. The brand is doing some great things and they're reaching further and further.

Given GS quality, the prices are more than fair. Limited editions, like Peacock, hold values well in the pre-loved market. If you take away marketing and branding, GS beats Rolex by a mile. Let's hope GS does not ramp up its marketing efforts. Otherwise, we won't be able to afford the watches.

Grand Seiko deserve to break out. Many other ‘up and comers’ are primarily hype. GS in undersold, if anything.
I don’t own any modern pieces, but the value of my vintage pieces has skyrocketed in the last years... |

That’s nice your AD gives a discount. My AD told me GS will not allow him to discount as of this year.

We don't have an AD in my little conservative city but I had the opportunity to buy one that my local Oris/Hamilton dealer came across and brought in brand new from one of their contacts.
I went in thinking it will be cool to see but I wasn't planning to buy it. Fast forward 20 seconds later after I saw it in person and it was mine. That was about six weeks ago and I just got my third one a couple of hours ago. |

I bought two grand seikos on a whim from the same seller about 2.5 years ago - Snowflake and the SBGH267.
Both super watches. Finishing is top notch and accuracy is stellar. The dials on both are a work of art! |

Agreed GS is undersold. The craftsmanship on the dials is of course amazing but the movement is just insane.

Honestly, their pricing is reasonable given the quality of their watches. IMO a level up from Rolex and they deserve to hold firm on their pricing. |

For #4, I would like to see a thinner, 40mm Hi-Beat diver from GS.
And for #5, a vintage inspired split-seconds chronograph. However, GS will have to make some significant bracelet improvements before I consider another. |

They are amazing and the AD network is not yet in most places so if you can get at an AD at a discount that is lucky.

Had 6 GS and still have one, the silk dial SD chrono.
To me, GS have some challenges : - warranty service could be improved. There are dozens of stories where the QC is shit after a repair. - zaratsu polishing service is over-expensive, like 700$ for the chrono only for zaratsu polishing, not the service - being crazy with SL means they won't be able to provide SL dials in the long run. Let's say in 15 years you damage your whirlpool as water came in. I bet GS will struggle to sell you a new dial. |
