Help me choose

So, I’m thinking about adding a Grand Seiko to my collection. I love the brands attention to detail (and as an added bonus I’d hope it helps my BLRO waitlist request with WoS be taken seriously).

I tried both on at WoS Soho today, and am torn. I love both and will ultimately pick what I like, but would appreciate some perspective from others as I continue to read up on both models.

Option #1: SBGM241 - The GS & WoS collaboration

Option #2: SBGH271 - The “Summer” Heritage

The SBGH271, not even close. Classic case design (62GS style), nicer dial, hi-beat movt, steel bracelet, etc

I prefer the 271 for the appearance and the bracelet.

x2

As for the 241, I prefer the cream dial & blue hand of the original SBGM221.

I’m going to go against the grain and say the SBGM241. Beautiful Mt. Iwate dial, and I like the yellow on it, which gives it more pop. I like the brighter green also. The difference in movement is reflected in the price.

The summer heritage, for its simplicity.

The 271 has a movement that is special to GS- their Hi Beat is remarkable and sets GS apart from other many other watch brands . So if this is to be your first GS- the SBGH271 would be an ideal addition to your watch collection !

I like the 241. Just like the aesthetics.

Had the 241 been 1-2mm wider and 1-2mm thinner, I think it would be a no brainer. But something about it leaves me not 100% sold.

Some great points made, I had entirely overlooked the notion of a "standard" movement vs. hi-beat (which is a hallmark of the GS brand).

I think I am leaning towards the 271

I’m torn - my heart says Option 1, but my mind says Option 2. Stunning green dials, and like you said, craftsmanship through the roof. Best wishes

One is a GMT, one isn't.

So if you're torn, and like both, I think your question should be, do I want a GMT or not?

I prefer Option #2. For me, GMT's are sporty and in my opinion don't look right on a dress strap. Option #2 covers the sporty look and the dress look.

FWIW I went into the Hudson Yards WoS today with the intent of deciding between the SBGE257 and SBGM241. I chose the 241. I feel like Seiko’s attention to detail shined better with a dressier watch. I may try to find a bracelet for it to open up some versatility, but the honeymoon period is sweet so far.

This isn’t even close - 271. Quintessential GS in terms of case and movement.

They're both really nice but I think I'd choose the second option.

Thanks! Tried to post a pic earlier, but Tapatalk wasn't having it. Day 1 was a lot of fun, though.

Sorry to resurrect the old thread, but OP, can you post some pics of your 271? I am considering this watch as well. Thanks!
