RSC Question

I have a new to me 1993 SD 16600. I want it serviced at the Dallas RSC. What is the consensus on how to ship it to the Rolex service Center? Would people take it to their local AD and have them package and ship it off or would they mail it directly to the Dallas location. If not terribly more expensive, I thought it might be an opportunity to establish at the local AD near my home. What do other people think? Thanks in advance
Scott

If not warranty work, I would just send it off to Rolliworks in Campbell near San Jose.
Maybe make a daytrip out of it. Call them first though. What you looking to have done?

It’s new to me without any service history. I want to wear it in water as a priority.

Deal with the RSC direct without AD. By doing so you are the RSC customer and can talk direct with the RSC about your wishes. If you go via the AD you never know what they agree on without you and the RSC will not communicate with you.

Small fry but some AD’s add a surcharge and you may or may not get the specified RSC invoice.

If you phone Rolex they will send you a mailing box with instructions.

Rolex Watch U.S.A, Inc.
Dallas Service Center
2601 North Harwood
Dallas, Texas, 75201
United States

Tel: 1+ 214-871-0500

The mailing box <going to them> does NOT say ROLEX on it, so no worries there.

The instruction list in the box can be used to check off / tell them exactly what you need in the way of repairs.

They will then contact you with cost to be accepted or denied.

I agree to avoid your AD as a "middleman." Useless effort and a delay for you. And you never know what their level of "care" is anyway.

I mailed my 16710 directly to the RSC Dallas. They are very easy to work with and as stated above you will have better control of the transaction if you have specific requests or concerns. If you just want the standard service and nothing special then it may not be a bad idea to use it as an opportunity to establish a relationship with your local AD.

Yes to that. Of the RSC's around, most of the posters here at TRF "seem" to prefer Dallas over the others.

Thanks for the information above. I will likely go Dallas after checking Rolliworks.

X2 I would only send it to RSC for service. There is a RSC in Beverly Hills to my knowledge. But I have had excellent service at the Dallas RSC

I know New York will send out a box and instructions, but all they need is it be sent registered mail in a box with paper tape around with your info and instructions.

Unless you have an account that can insure the value of the item I believe Rolex uses USPS Registered Mail. If you call the service center I do believe they will send a box but you have to pay for the box and shipping.

As a data point, this summer I called RSC NY and they told me that they are not any longer shipping out mailing boxes.

This being said, if you decide to use RSC, I also don't see a point in using an AD. You will have to use USPS to insure properly and adhesive paper tape to make sure the package can be stamped.

If you contact RSC, they will send you these instructions. For full disclosure I ended up sending my watch to Rik Dietel since it was out of warranty anyway.

I just telephoned RSC Dallas this morning. My DJ 41 is running over a minute slow per day. The representative emailed the instructions that "themast" just posted above. She is also sending me a box with all the packing material and proper tape for registered mail. She didn't offer up the box on her own, I had to ask her for it.

Interesting, back in July I asked for the box and was told they were not doing it any longer. Perhaps they just did not have stock, or they are phasing them out, or it is a RSC NY only.

I go the service sheet back. Looks like they will keep the original tritium dial, bezel, and hands without replacement. I am sort of relieved. I would have gone for a more functional new dial as I am not considering ever selling this. So now I get the tritium back, and it probably is how the watch should be kept, as close to original as possible.

Do you have to contact the RSC to get the "Service Form"?

The 'service form' is inside the mailing box that Dalls/Rolex sends to you, along with some brown paper wrapping tape.

Update Back from RSC 16600

A long 2 months. But now, so sweet. Here is the unboxing. Actually more fun than a new watch unboxing as I was unsure what I would get. They left the tritium dial and hands. It was previously polished, and the new polish did take the case down a little more. I still see some chamfers. I am real happy with the work from Dallas

An interesting detail was that I used two additional links in the bracelet before I sent it in for my 9 inch wrist. The two links were Rolex links from a newer model oyster bracelet. These two links had solid center pieces. Those 2 pieces are now gone and replaced by 2 hollow Center links that now match all the other links with the exception of both solid end links. It also came back adjusted at the exact same size and fits me perfectly.

I took your advice and dealt directly. No problem at all, although I sweated the first week awaiting USPS delivery. RSC requested that carrier, although they did an overnight FedEx back to me.
