Question re Rolex PM

When looking at PM options, for the price of Rolex pm, other options come into play.

I’ve suddenly become attracted to the new white gold Sub w blue bezel. I currently have one Rolex, the root beer, which I love. I also a have a few other SS omega and tag. But nothing full pm.

While I can get the Rolex, at that price point I can consider some really nice high horology pieces, most notable Patek and ALS. And the Rolex sub dial is not different than my root beer.

I’m conflicted. Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks!

If you have that kind of money to spend on a watch I would go with the old adage and buy the watch you like. The value of the PM adds nothing near the asking price of the watch (The actual bullion value of the PM is usually around 7-9K over ss) You will see different opinions about that as well. It's more about if you want a PM watch as a luxury item. Or a more high horology piece as a luxury item. What watch makes the statement you want to make or has the aesthetics you will appreciate every day? Unless it's yellow gold, which makes it's own statement, white PM is visually nearly indistinguishable from SS.

Most Rolex PM are around $40k+ now for new pieces. Substaintial rise in them compared to only 18months ago when you could pick up DD40s for $26-$27k so you are correct in saying other higher tier brands are now cheaper.

If your a real horology guy and just not into the flex culture and buying into Rolex hype an ALS like this for $33k is well and truly worth it. Compared to a gold Rolex a real watch enthusiast I would say would appreciate the ALS much much more.

Buy the watch you are going to wear. And buy it for you, not the people looking at it on you. I have a smurf that I was able to get a great price on several years back. I love the feel of a WG on my wrist. Follow your inner voice and what you are going to wear and you can’t go wrong. Good luck and let us know!

agree with this. there might be "better" watches out there for the price like patek (not talking about aquanaut/nautilus)/als/etc, but i would not wear those on a daily basis personally because they don't fit my lifestyle/attire. if you're gonna wear a PM rolex every day then it's much more worth going that route

The advice provided above is solid: If you’re going to buy PM, buy the piece you’ll actually wear. I picked up a GMT in Everose because it fit my lifestyle best. It’s robust, has a great complication, and is a joy to wear. Sure, I could have spent the money in a bunch of different ways but this is a timepiece I’ll get years of enjoyment from. Isn’t that really what it’s all about?

I love PM for the feel and wrist presence. Get the watch that sings to you.

You’re going to be comparing a dress watch on a strap to a sport watch on a bracelet for WG Sub $.

Would you like a dress watch?
