spring 2016.

DavidSW had a Kermit with a glide lock bracelet for 7500.

I at least got a new sub for 7200 later that summer.

Wow, a 15202 just 4 years ago? Did you have a buying history there?

Sea Dweller 126600. Was at a Ben Bridge in an out of the way mall in 2018. I had never been in there and they only had DJs in the case. I asked about the wait for a Sub and they said they have something better in the back. They said they called the guy on the wait list for 2 days. Strange that there was not a longer wait. They told me they would hold it for 1 hour while I think about it. I had just picked up my Daytona and didn't think my wife would appreciate me spend that much on a watch I have never even talked about. Love that Red line of text.

The OP39 with the grape dial. My AD got one in a year ago right before Christmas. I wouldn't want it for a "one and only" but it wouldn't have been. I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on a "purple" Rolex that day. I thought to myself there would be another chance.

An all-steel Omega "Speamaster" (a Seamaster with "Speedmaster" erroneously written on the dial). Friar John collects them but had never seen a steel one before, just two-tone. It didn't last long; I slept on it and went to the website it was listed on the next morning and it was gone.

I passed on this not one year ago. A more seasoned expert in vintage Breitling and I both thought the case was slightly suspect- in particular, the case back did not match the case- and so I decided to avoid bidding on it.

Eventually, after many failed attempts, the auction house sold it for $9K. I then thought, "you know... I could have had the case stripped of its aftermarket gold plating and have it professionally restored... hmm, I'll just wait for the next one."

Wait for the next one I did; one popped up on Chrono24 and the asking price was over $30K.

Eventually I will have to look for that particular reference- though it's very rare that I see any with the kind of flawless dial that the one in question has. I do regret passing it up, and I fear I will have to pay dearly for my mistake.

Offered a Sea-Dweller not that long after they first came out. If I recall correctly it was about £5,500. As I had recently purchased a Breitling Seawolf I passed on it. I now know there is definitely space for both watches in any collection.

Don’t kick yourself too much. This reference was being slept on by many who got caught up in the professional model hype. It’s about time it’s getting the recognition it deserves.

About six years ago I was offered to trade my Milgauss GV to Submariner 114060 (no money involved). I didn't do it because Milgauss msrp was more than nd-sub in Rolex Price list. I am not sure that was a smart move. Time will tell.

Brand new meteorite speedmaster (soyuz edition) in a AD window for £3500. I wanted them to throw in the interest free financing too... which they wouldn't. I went back a few days later to just buy it and it was gone. This woukd have been a keeper and I've tried to buy one again but can't face paying close to 3x now.

Also got the call to put a deposit down on the white snoopy when it came out. Not 100% I would have got one as I heard they had trouble fullfilling orders due to the production of the casebacks. I registered interest before the announcement but passed because I though it looked a bit tacky when the photos were released. In reality I would have sold it long before prices went astronomical though.

Ones that come to mind:
* 15202 looking lost among other ROs in a corner in some multi-brand AD at Geneva airport
* DaytonaC from Rolex "boutique" at Geneva airport - they wanted 50% deposit for delivery in Fall '16
* Rose-gold Royal Oak Day-date in 2019 from local grey used at $20k - passed b/c I had a 15500 on order
* Patek 5711 from Wempe in Frankfurt - passed b/c I thought quoted one year delivery time was ridiculous
* SD4K sitting in the display at CDG in 2017 - would have been good deal VAT free

would have been a killer collection between those 5 alone

I passed on a No Date Sub in 2017 in favour of a Pelagos...I had the sub in my hand.

I’ve regretted it since, but on Friday the stars much have been aligned because I managed to pick up the No Date from AD, and this one is the birth year for my first child due in 2 months. It was meant to be!

Spring 2014, Singapore.

On the lookout for a 5711/1A, I walk into an AD and ask if they could get me one within reasonable timeframe (which at the time was 4-5 months if you were lucky).

Did not expect a positive reply.
Sales Assistant says "Please allow me to check with our boutique manager and I'll be right back with you."

Few minutes later the SA comes back holding a double sealed 5711/1A blue dial in his hand.
"We do have one in stock, Sir, it'll be S$37k."

(That was -at the time- equivalent to U.S. $27,450)
(Watch had -at the time- a retail price of S$32k, or U.S. $25,470)

I said to myself "Thieves. They think I am a tourist and try to rip me off."
(Actually I was an expat working there, knew the local market well).

I said thank you and left the store (Cortina Watch, Paragon).
It was unthinkable back then for an AD to ask straight upfront for a premium.

Subsequently I managed to buy a double sealed 5712/1A a month later, with a discount, from another AD (THG, Scotts).
A Calatrava 5196J followed six months later, from the same AD.

But I wish I had purchased that 5711/1A as well, and kept it intact.

Could have bought a Speedy Alaska Project for $3k and didn't do it. Was a student at the time and my GF at the time convinced me it was a fugly POS. Biggest mistake ever.

My biggest regret is not having jumped on a very nice SS Patek 3700 full set with cork box for EUR 36k some 7 or 8 years ago.

Looked great on my wrist, but I hesitated as I had never spent that sort of money on a used watch. It would have been a private purchase from my hairdresser and I wasn't in a position to properly assess condition and price on the spot back then. My hairdresser even had a second 3700 but non full set and already promised to the biggest local preowned dealer. They also bought the first one in no time when I wasn't sure.

Waited a few years on a new 5711/1A as consolation some time later. Initially the 5711 blue felt a little underwhelming with the 3700 in the back of my mind but it has grown on me since.

Also passed on a preowned 5167A for around 15k back then. No regrets there as I had found the Aquanaut soso on my wrist.

As mentioned, at the time I didn't have the confidence to spend that much money on a watch nor could I really afford it! So I handed it back to the sales woman (I couldn't understand why she looked so surprised at the time).

However I pestered enough to be offered the first white ceramic Daytona which came in on August 2016.

Since then I have learned my lesson and the collection has grown to 10 watches including 3 Daytonas :)
Like you, passed on the 116520 White dial in 2016 at MSRP from an AD- kicking myself ever since but I was lucky enough to obtain both SS Ceramic Daytona's and will never sell them so can't complain now.

The most painful was passing on a 50th anniversary Sub 16610lv about a year or two after it was released. The original owner wanted to move it on via an AD friend whom I had bought quite few Rolexs from already. It was one of the first releases, old style box, anchor etc, so probably much acclaimed "flat four". To be honest, even though I am a bit of a Sub/SD guy, I just was not bowled over by it at that time....big mistake!
