They’ve probably sent mass emails out to all the ADs telling them they better get first dibs.

At this point Rolex might as well just come out and say that all the "trusted sellers" aka greys are their official distribution network. Why bother with ADs when buying a watch from them isn't possible anymore?

Its almost like the AD's are just distributors. They get full retail plus a little markup on most models now by selling the to grays. MommaRolex likes this situation because it allows them to keep building two tone datejusts in lots of sizes at huge mark ups to AD's who can't retail them. As long as AD's can package the crap with the good models and keep the volume up for Rolex, the grays will live on. They all need each other. I suspect the dealers are the ones getting squeezed the most in this game.

the new releases are big news, even if many are disappointed. DavidSW probably sells more watches than all but the largest ADs. His business is suppling watches. People will want these new watches... flippers will be selling him watches in the very near future! Why would he not be on the front foot?!

David is well respected and my understanding is he will be auctioning off the first Batman Returns with proceeds going to a cause* near and dear to him:

*The David S. Williams Foundation for Ferrari Preservation

It is already 10,800 + tax which is almost 12k. $15k is good deal, I would think it'll be more.

If it it weren't for clearinghouses such as DavidSW your new production watches would all be worth less than MSRP.

Indeed - their retail stores are a joke.

Kind of funny how a lot of secondary sellers starting buying up 39mm Explorers over the past few weeks.... It is like they knew something.
