First Sports model buying advice
Hi all, was hoping for some buying advice -
I’m based in an affluent part of the UK. My purchase history is fairly limited - bought a lady’s DJ for the wife last year and serviced my own DJ TOG at the same AD. My own DJ was bought from a different AD but same chain (Watches of Switzerland) many years back. It would be great to get something less dressy like a sub date or GMT. Do you guys think a sub date or gmt is a reasonable request they might deliver on? I have to say the response I’ve had on previously asking was “we can’t promise anything” which doesn’t sound promising. Has anyone managed to secure a sub or gmt after only buying a DJ? Just wondered if it’s going to be a waste of time waiting on these guys. Cheers |

I am sure you will get a tremendous number of different comments here but I think that what you are asking for doesn’t seem unreasonable.
I would recommend you focus on one model (the sub) and tell them you are looking forward to it and ready to buy. The GMT is harder to get and if you are asking for either you can appear to be a flipper. Then just check in on them every now and again |

First Sports model buying advice
Everyone has their own unique circumstance in this endeavor. You will get a wide variance of answers from different regions which really won’t help your situation except maybe give you false or unnecessary hope depending on your outcome.
That being said, here is my anecdotal contribution. I obtained a GMT BLRO in less than 6 months from an AD that caters to whales from and visiting Las Vegas. My purchase history would make vile cretinous ADs from a variety of horror stories cackle and jeer as it only includes a trinket or two, wedding bands, and a Milgauss. As luck would have it, my AD is honest in their communication. Caveat being I guess it also helps that I have been a customer for a decade and know each member of the staff and the manager personally. Good luck. |

I agree with the pick the one watch you really want of the two and go strong on that reference approach.

It’s a reasonable request, but we aren’t living in reasonable times (where Rolex is concerned). Might as well give it a shot with the AD, the gray market will always be there if you get tired of waiting. If you just want something less dressy there are lots of other brands with watches immediately available.

I wish I had some hard manufacturing numbers to back this up - but - I understand that the Submariner w/ date is one of Rolexs largest produced watch.
Extremely popular model. Yes - I think - if you pop in to the shop every three or four weeks it's going to pay off for you. Waiting for a Submariner for me was taking wayyyy too long. I went with Nashville Watches and got a flawless Sub w/ date a few weeks ago. And paid more than MSRP of course. For some reason I thought I'd literally never get the call. But no I don't think its a waste of time. Be patient. In other words, don't be like me ! It will happen.

I would spread the love around and speak to other ADs (not from the same chain). Explain that you’ve purchased from X AD, but sadly their waiting list on the piece you seek is a little long due to demographics in that area. Tell the other ADs that you’re planning on starting a collection starting with the watch you want now. Visit these other ADs, don’t just call. Get the employees card alleging that you’d let him/her know if you are successful elsewhere, so as not to waste their time (honest ploy). Then send an email every month “hey remember me, I came in on xx, was just wondering how things are going”.
Hope that helps
