Starting early

I was just admiring my new GMT BLNR last weekend when my 7 year old grandson came in.
“What are you doing grandpa” said Seb
“‘I’m looking at my new watch” I replied
Seb said “It looks expensive” then he turned and set off to the door and as he was about to leave the room he said in a soft voice “but it is a Rolex”

He doesn’t know it but I have his birth year sub ready for when he’s old enough.

Pretty crazy a 7 year old knows what a Rolex is.. my son is 10 and he asked me the same thing before. I remember wanting one from about 12/13 years old watching the sopranos!

Looks like the generations to come are still going to love the Rolex brand!

Rolex has a looooonnnnggggg reach. Probably the only watch I could name as a kid besides Timex. But the Rolex ads were way cooler.

As a kid I knew Timex and Bulova only because they were across from Laquardia airport that we used to pass all the time going to my Godparents house in Astoria.

I learned about Rolex reading a James Bond Book. Think it was From Russia With Love. One part in the book has Bond taking off hi Rolex from his wrist and wrapped it around his knuckles to k I know out a bad guy. So I asked my mom is a Rolex a good watch and she said yes very good and too expensive for us.

Was a looong time till I could put one on my wrist.

Love that story — how adorable. Ans what a cool grandpa you are to have gotten him his first Rolex already. Way to go.

Why it's one of the most valuable brands in the world! Although, something tells me you'll be hearing more about this from him very soon!! And if he's anything like me, it will get louder and louder and louder and louder until......

I think my first awareness of Rolex was at about the age of age 10 from watching the classic Bond movies with my father. Now my kids know all of my watches by name. They love the lume in the dark when I’m sing them lullabies or tell them stories. They like Milgauss but I think the favorites are my Orange Monster because of the name or obviously my Reverso because it can flip.

Awesome! Write a note or print your post out and put it in the box with the date. Will be really cool to share this story with him.

Birth year Sub for the grandchild! That’s an awesome idea! I would have been blown away by a gift like that! Strong move.
