Should I try multiple AD to form relationship for my first

Im looking for my first Rolex. Do you recommend trying to form relationships with multiple ADS or stick to one. Hard to tell if theyre just blowing you off or actually will consider you for a piece when they receive one. Is it better to tell them your interested in multiple pieces or just one specific.

To form your relationship with your AD or ADs you are going to have spend £10,000’s on hard to shift inventory (lady DJ, non Rolexes , overpriced jewellery ) and then wait and wait and wait

Don’t bother , save money and go grey

Thankfully, this has not been my experience. I suppose it’s all location and AD specific.

Through genuine conversation, I’ve been offered the following over the last year:
AD 1 - stainless sub date 126610LN, bluesy 126613LB, 126613LN at a nice discount, 126334 DJ 41 slate dial (jubilee), OP34 (silver) for my wife

AD2 - TT root beer, jubilee blue DJ41 126334, stainless SD43, OP41 (silver), several other stainless DJ41 configurations

My only prior purchase history was my wedding band at AD 2 about a decade ago.

In my neck of the woods with a wedding band purchase a decade ago, you wouldn’t even be offered a Cillini!

For sure it really depends on countries & ADs.
I started with one AD and after some years (and watches) I added a second AD.
So, based on my experience, I would suggest you to activate two ADs from the beginning of your history. Reserve a meeting and introduce yourself discussing about your watch passion. Good luck!

When you say, interested in multiple pieces, do you want a specific watch, or do you just want a Rolex?

In my experience ADs aren't best pleased with people walking in and just asking for a Rolex.

For you first Rolex definitely buy a new genuine piece. Don't buy used 2nd hand.

Just go to the shops, tell them you want to buy your first Rolex. Tell them what models you're interested in and just wait. Ignore all the trolls and hustlers.

Developing a relationship with a seller means buying things from them. The more relationships you are developing, the more you will be spending.

I would certainly ring around at length to enquire about a model I wanted and try to assess what kind of responses I got. The other thing about developing relationships is that they tend to develop organically. It's not all transactional but buying things must factor in. Otherwise there's no basis for the relationship to develop.

I would vet ADs just like ADs are vetting the flippers. If you have a Rolex boutique near by, I would only focus on the boutique so they don't push you to purchase $20,000 junk diamond piece just to get yourself "on" the "list" if it ever exist at all.

1. Multiple AD’s can be a prudent decision, if you have the money to spread over two.

2. Don’t buy items you don’t want. But if you do want them, buy the items from one of the two AD’s you choose. Or buy from both.

Experiment like you're in college again. Start with one, and if you aren't getting the results you hoped for, try two at the same time. If still no dice, maybe even try three!

I showed interest at 5 ADs and asked to “get on the list” for the 126618LB. Two major cities and one small city. Small city wanted a 50% deposit, I declined. One where I had no history got the watch in 6 weeks. For fun, I took it to the AD down the street where I had history and have visited multiple times recently to have them size it.

I would certainly visit every AD in your area and let them know which models you're interested in. You can call and/or drop by periodically to reiterate your interest. As for purchasing though, I would focus on the AD that seems most honest and genuine. For example, if an AD is requesting that you purchase jewelry or other less desirable pieces to better your chances of securing your first Rolex, that is a red flag. Best of luck!
