Datejust Fluted Bezel
I love the DJ and its on the short list as my next watch. IMHO also the fluted bezel/jubilee combination is the one to get. The one thing that I do struggle with though is just how blingy the bezel is and how much it shimmers as you rotate the watch. I love how it looks but sometimes I feel hesitant how that would be in practice for my style. My question is - does this tend to "tone" down a bit as wear and tear accumulates? I've seen 5 digits like a 16234 and the fluted bezel seems to not shimmer as much as a new 126234. But I wonder if that has to do with the brushed case on the 5 digits compared to the 6 digit's polished case and thus toning down the overall look of it.

I have the SS blue dial with Fluted Bezel and Jubilee, and I don’t think it sticks out too much. In fact I think my new LV sub is more obvious! I think the bracelet sparkles more than the bezel, but way more under strong lights like in a TV studio, the lights in a jewellers etc. But that does tone down a bit with the micro scratches you will always get. Understand fully your thoughts and fears as in an AD store the white gold bezel certainly glistens. Once out and about it’s not so shinny and in your face at all.
Also in the real world no one notices your watch. I’ve had 3 sports Rolex’s over the last 5 years and added a DJ36 blue dial jubilee with a fluted bezel a couple of months ago. In all I can think of only 1 occasion ever where someone made a comment about one of my watches and it was about the BLNR. I find that the smaller size of my DJ makes it somewhat more subtle than my 40 mm sports watches. Buy what you like and forget about what others may think. I wish I’d added a DJ early as it’s a lovely piece Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A subdued photo (all threads need photos!) showing how subtle a DJ can be once away from the bright lights of the AD store and this isn’t a worn battered watch; barely 2 months old. Do it, get one of you like them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

How about in sunlight? More subdued than the AD lights? Or about the same? |

Most of my watches have also been sporty and tooly. I have no need for a traditional dress watch but I do want something that can play the part if I need it. I'm also drawn to having something in a smaller package. Hence the possibility of getting a DJ36. |

I’ve gone through the same thought process as you and have oscillated back and forth between flashy and tool watches over the past decade as a result. On the DJ I prefer the fluted bezel but have grown out of love for the jubilee bracelet. So you might consider switching to an oyster bracelet as another option to tone down the flash. Do note, however, that the oyster bracelet on the DJ has PCLs, which add another shiny element.

I think as they become old, the bezel shines less.. mine is 6 years old and used everyday and here is how it looks...
When i bought it the bezel was very shiny . Not anymore. I think no matter how expensive things or materials are, the age cannot be hidden if its been used daily..it will show signs of age... But i would rather have a well worn watch than one kept in a safe.. Sent from my GM1901 using Tapatalk |

Here in the UK getting a sunny day is a rarity! Here a photos I took the day I got home with It and taken next to a window... I mostly wear neutrally coloured clothing too; whites, greys and blues mostly. I think the smaller size helps it stay subtle, might have been different if I went DJ41??? Im in the minority for sure but I really prefer the smooth bezel DJ 41. It's got a modern and youthful look and beautifully balanced with the oyster bracelet. I had a fluted bezel but moved it on because it was just too busy for my taste....Everybody to their own taste but one thing is for sure, there are a lot less of the smooth bezel variants about and I like that...
