Tudor BB58 925+Gold and new Chrono impressions

Today I was given the opportunity by my awesome AD to try some of the most prominent Tudor releases of this year.


Both the 925 and the gold 58's are very well balanced and the 39mm case, although smallish by today's standards for a sports watch, it still has an elegant presence on the wrist. 


What truly makes the difference with the two pm / semi-pm offerings of the 58 line is their color. 

One has to see them in real life to fully appreciate the hues and how the light plays with the rehaut and through the crystal edges, all in combination with the hands' polished surface.

Overall, these are very legible watches (as is the GMT). The shallower rehaut as compared to the standard 41 mm BB makes for a more refined and legible face, bringing the beautifully colored dial to the forefront. 


I find the 925 to be the most elegant and under the radar of the two. The taupe color, arguably somewhat subdued, is quite versatile but imho summer / hot weather attire is its element.

The silver case is, aesthetically, pleasantly finished and the metal, being less shiny than your ordinary SS, feels smoother to the touch and to the eye.


The gold one is the flashiest of the two but the brushed case finish mutes the precious metal just enough, to suit the nature of this watch.

The choice of green color is imho very tasteful albeit somewhat limiting. I could see myself wearing that one with my winter, country attire, I think it would look amazing with my olive drab Barbour jackets and tartan accessories... 


The open display case back on both models, although it's a nice touch, leaves me rather unimpressed.


Overall, I really like both pieces but there is a problem: I can't see either as  standalone. If I were to buy the 925, I'd still want the gold one and vice versa. No way around it, period!

At the same time I find the €16K for the gold one, rather  steep.  

In this particular case, I would probably recommend going unconventional and consider purchasing BOTH. It makes much more sense that way,  if spending 20K on Tudors is your thing....


Lastly, I had the opportunity to try on the new black chrono. I don't know if they actually slimmed these down or its the bevel (ala GMT) on the underside of the case that gives the impression of a slimmer profile.

The dimensions however, appear almost identical to the BB GMT both in case thickness (including case back and crystal) and lug to lug.

Again, the dial here is the strong feature with the recessed sub dials but what I really loved is the bezel insert and the way it compliments the watche's face. 


It's size is overall on the larger side, a tad top heavy and probably not too easily wearable under a shirt cuff but someone with a flat 7,5 in wrist could still get away with it methinks....

I had a look at the silver BB58 today at my AD. It is really nice! Much better than in pictures in my opinion. I already have a BB58 blue, but if they should start making it with a bracelet I might be interested. The display case back is pointless, I hope they get rid of it.

Thanks for the info. I’m in the same camp as you.... just seems a bit too expensive. The grey though is a winner for me

I like all three, but after seeing your pic of the Chrono I'm not so sure it's for me. I had a Heritage Chrono blue and ultimate rarely wore it because of the size and thickness. I was hoping this new one would be much slimmer but the sides of the case look very much like the Heritage. The single thing I like most about my Daytona is the size and shape of the case, which is comfortable and timeless. I'm still certain that I'd like the 925, and more so each time I see new pics of it.

Yeah, when it comes to Tudor, the blue dial BB58 is the cream of the crop. I haven’t entirely ruled that out yet. I might actually buy one.

idk. how much does omega charge for a speedy gold or a 300 gold. it's like 24k to 28k on a strap.

i think the gold is priced appropriately. will it sell at a discount? yeah it is a tudor.

The tudor chrono is great I tried it on a day or so after it came out and was so close to buying it I didn’t return ha. There’s many more up the list I want to own.

Why they have made a good watch on that awful looking strap (in my eyes) I don’t know.

I could probably consider them as part of a larger collection. Lots of ends to be covered before getting into these, however...

The thickness is probably on par with the GMT. Which is borderline for a simple case watch. Add the extra width of the chrono pushers and the chunky bracelet and you probably end up with another borderline example, that of a rather bulky chronograph.
The Daytona size and shape are second to none

Exactly how i feel. Was trying the black chrono yesterday & although it looks really good i never felt the urge to pull the trigger.

Nice review. The silver I could get into, but still can’t really understand where the gold fits in, especially on a nato strap - don’t really get it. And I say that as someone who loves gold.

Nice review and good to hear others opinions on two interesting releases from Tudor. I have handled the 925 and found it nice and was going to get it but my AD only had one and a gentleman that is an associate really wanted it more than me so it is his. I am waiting on the next one to come in and I will decide. I have not seen the gold in person but I am a little green watched out. The price is ok and not prohibitive should you want one. I just do not think it is as good a value as the SS models or now sliver. I have my eye on the new Omega Seamaster 300 in gold on the strap. I think it comes in around 12k and I prefer the color, strap and size, 41mm. But I have not seen it in person either so I will wait. I did pick up the Black Chrono on the Bund Strap and really like it. I have a 7.5-7.75 in wrist so the size is not an issue. I am waiting on the white dial and will pick it up when available. A lot of choices but it is nice to have them.

I agree on the Omega. I wish Tudor had gone with a bronze gold blend the jump from 12K to 17K is a steep one. I prefer that the omega will lightly patina over time, better looking movement & size. I’m a BB fan with a bronze gold blend and bracelet 17K might be ok but strap only I don’t think its for me.
