Gilt dials??

OK guys, I apologize but.... I have one more newbie question.

Well one more before I ask the next one...!

I see some Rolex dials for sale occasionally that are described as "gilt" which means: –noun - the thin layer of gold or other material applied in gilding.

Why is it I see no evidence of gold on these dials? What are they talking about?

The just look like regular vintage dials to me.

The lettering on my 1675 dial is gold. I'm not sure if it is real gold, all I know is that it isn't white

Means the text is a golden color. Normally associated with vintage gloss dials. Gilt dials went out about 1967 or so.

Mike,

This dial's text looks white / normal to me.

Were they actually printed in gold? I don't see the golden color in your photo.

Hi there,
"Gilt" in this case means the golden printing on the whole dial (crown, letters, hour markers).
You find it on all the earlier beauty Vintage sport models and the most of the are glossy gilt dials.
As you can see in the pictures above you also have some differences between chaptered (ring around the hour markers) and unchaptered dials such as Mike´s.
Hope it helps
Best
Axel

For those of you drooling over the old Sub that Saxon007 posted...

Bill Yao or MkII Watches has a special limited edition project called the "Kingston". It's an homage to the original Bond watch.

...and wouldn't you know, he polled everyone to see what color to make the lume and text...
