Scored a 116234 for my wife! (36mm, super jubilee)

Went browsing at my local Austin TX AD, figured I'd find nothing - and sure enough the case was mostly bare.

But they had something "in the back" that they just took in on trade: Recently serviced 116234 with rhodium dial. Box & papers, 2 years Rolex factory warranty. We shook hands on the spot and the impulse buy was complete! Later went to chrono24 to judge how I did - turns out I got a very fair deal especially when considering the warranty.

Anyway, the watch itself is nicely wrapped so no pics but you all know what they look like. I'm very pleased that I found one with the super jubilee, the newer clasp is fine on the oyster bracelet but on a lady the full jubilee looks nice. I can't wait to give it to her! She'll be shocked. It's our 20th anniversary and supposedly I'm not getting her anything although we're going on away on stay-cation to a spa resort.

How much did the AD charge for the old model, was it old MSRP? It's a pre owned and used watch. Good buy regardless.

Thanks everyone! Today is the big day - hopefully she's thrilled
(She's very modest and doesn't like spending money, so she'll likely say it's much too nice of a gift )

It was $7.8k. So a slight "discount" but good when compared to the prices on chrono24 and the bulk of those are without warranty. This has the post-service Rolex 2yr warranty and came with a blank owner's card. It's close enough to finding a NOS unit. I really wanted to get her a model with a Super jubilee.

If only I'd had a crystal ball a few years ago, I would have stocked up on several other models as well.

She loved it!

Unrelated to the Rolex surprise I had already planned a big weekend. We stayed 2 nights at the JW Marriott golf resort & spa in San Antonio:
https://www.marriott.com/hotels/trav...esort-and-spa/

I got her a couple outfits from Victorias Secret and a massage appointment at the spa. (BTW, that hotel was quite the gathering place for people with watches, at the hot tub before dinner I sat next to three guys all with Subs! And of course everyone else had Apple watches )

Anyway, back to the watch. I had it in a little gift bag from the AD and much to my horror it had the little 'crown' on it - I was sure she would notice. But she didn't pay attention till I actually handed it to her and she said "Did you get me a Rolex?!!" Yessiirreee! I've never seen such a fast unwrap & unboxing in my life, would have made a disappointing YT video

Looks great on her, the 36mm and SS is a nice modern design.

The happy couple, my SD43 next to her new DJ

I too wish I had stocked up given the crown clasp. Question though, is the 126234 reference no longer considered a super jubilee? Did they do anything different to the actual bracelet itself besides the clasp change?

It probably is still a 'super jubilee' in terms of the bracelet build itself. But that would have been cold comfort to my wife - a big fat buckle in the middle of a beautiful bracelet. A deal breaker.

The more you know. I wasn't aware the hidden jubilee clasp has been phased out. Congrats on the watch!

Completely understandable. I am on the hunt for one of these pieces and it’s just so hard to find in good condition. The longer I search the more prone I am to just biting the bullet on the new one even though I hate the clasp.

Did you ever give thought to an oyster band with a fluted bezel? I prefer jubilee but the new clasp fits in more seamlessly on the oyster band.

If I was going for a 116234 I'd find the black tuxedo dial with roulette date wheel on super jubilee. No modern DJs have that dial, clasp, or date wheel.

Nice! A few months ago I got the older version of that watch (16200), but with a smooth bezel on the non-PCL Oyster. I love the way the applied Romans look on the silver dial, especially in the sun. Hers must be extra-sparkly with the fluted bezel and Jubilee.

Congrats on #20 as well!
