is it possible to buy a submariner for MSRP?

I have not been buying watches for a while and it looks like something has changed :) the MSRP for a submariner is 9150 but none of the local dealers have it in stock and here every one is asking 16k for the same watch. Dealer won't even take my order for some reason which is kind of strange.
i can wait so any one know any Base Submariners Black for sale in the DMV (Virginia, Mary Land, DC) area?

is it possible to buy a submariner for MSRP?

All are sold at MSRP in reputable ADs.

Some ADs have sunk to the level of demanding a “bundle” from new customers, though.

Hope your request yields a result.

this has been covered A LOT here. just search. but the answer is NO. Not a chance unless you've got a long history/relationship with an AD or want to wait a long time, or want to buy a lot of jewelry or other less desirable watches first. This holds true for pretty much every stainless steel (and many PM and TT) rolexes. do some research on google and you'll see it all. or search this forum. the current state of the rolex market is pretty well documented out there. not an easy market to gain entry to for MSRP. but very easy if you're willing to pay market price from trusted resellers. good luck. sorry for the bad news, but it's not an easy task.

You are wanting to buy the most popular model (and thus in demand) of the SS models.

No - You will not be able to buy it at MSRP as that is reserved for those who least need the price break. Go figure...

The ADs do not get enough of the in demand models to sell so they maximize the profitability of each and everyone. It can be done but you will have to invest a lot of time and or treasure to do it. I recommend finding a local AD and SA you like and start doing business w them. Birthdays, anniversary, when you gotta buy gifts - buy them from the AD. Each time you are there express your interest in the Sub (doesn’t have to be a huge purchase) but become a known customer. This is your best chance / or DavidSW and you can have it via FedEx tomorrow.

If you buy your wife or mother a watch first then you can get one. Sad truth. The downside of this strategy is my wife has 2 Rolex now and wants more.

There’s always a chance. It’s a black Sub not a Daytona. Just approach a few AD’s by actually making an appointment and going into store and hopefully one of them will take your name and call you when your turn comes. I’m sure AD’s get a lot of black Submariners but the lists are also very long so just be patient.

Definitely possible. I have a pretty good relationship with my AD and can’t seem to get one right now after a few months of asking. But it’s lower on the scale to get than a Daytona or GMT.

I've had no such luck with obtaining a ND Sub myself. I'm on the list at 2 ADs where I have a small purchase history (bought a Rolex at each place). One since July 2018 and the other since Dec. 2019. I also regularly stay in touch and ask for any updates. If I don't get a call from either by the end of the year I think I'll contact one of the trusted sellers and purchase one from them.

Among Maryland dealers, likely a hard no if all you want is a Sub, and likely the same for NoVA and DC.

It’s easier than some of the other sport models. Just keep trying, build a relationship.

This!! Sub not as difficult as last year with the new model release. If you buy something else too you should get one within a few months I would have thought if the AD is a large store.

Yes, it is.

Just takes some research with ADs, an honest talk and some waiting. Don't play the jewellery or qualification purchases game. Be clear and firm on what you're looking to buy.

If you are willing to do that then your chances are pretty high.

Simple answer yes.

How you get on a list will depend on your purchase history

It’s possible. But about as probable as enjoying a slow dance with Jennifer Anniston.

Welcome to Rolex 2021, grab a chair, you have a lot of catching up to do…….
But to get to the end of the story, your AD told you what every other will tell you and regular people like yourself based on your post have zero chance of buying at MSRP. For you the price is around that $16k from resellers.

Haven’t seen a Sub in an AD in London for years.

Whenever the question is asked they literally chuckle. It’s that bad.

If you’re willing to wait then cool. I’d say it’ll be a long wait. Other than that, look for reputable grey dealers to get your Sub.

Good luck

I managed to walk into an AD and just see a Sub date in the display cabinet.

10 mins later it was on my wrist as my own watch. That was my 116610LN.

3 years later, I walked in again and there was a 126610LN .... Same thing happened. 10 mins later I had bought it. That one was the first the AD had got in and I was in the cortrect place at the correct time.

Note to myself .......
I must make a point to go back soon to see whats next for me.

I suspect none are available in your area as they are not available anywhere else at the moment. Getting one depends on the AD but is very tough to do at the moment. The ADs I know say they are receiving so few and their remaining allocation for the year is so low. Low supply to dealers has nothing to due with demand. Its an output issue with Rolex since the number of ADs continues to decline but no one seems to have any. ADs cannot sell what they do not have.

YES! Try Liljenquist & Beckstead in NOVA (Tysons Corner)... I had no purchase history and was able to score a 41mm Sub Date at MSRP. I posted about it back in March. Good luck!
