That’s why they also carry Tudor and Baume & Mercier.

(Sorry to all the T and B&M fans.)

ADs pretty much seem to be forced to give new prospective customers the same speech if their being transparent. What else can they say.. If you want to play you've got to pay, that being for other items before you can actually pay for your Rolex.

I'd follow up with a message to the AD, saying you were heading back from work
If they continue with the relationship narrative, move on
They've created a barrier to your goodwill by setting rules
Leave the door open - let them know to call you if x watch is available

Well this policy must have been implemented to limit the number of times dealers say “sorry I don’t have anything in stock. Ever. Sorry”.

They require meeting people in person to verify they are at least within a reasonable distance from the store. They want local people buying stuff. This helps to build local long lasting relationships and prevent a Grey in Miami from calling all the ADs in the country and constantly checking on stock and sending buyers all over. It’s not a super effective method but it’s something. I had to do the same thing because my AD is 3 hours away. Went in once to verify I was real and get on lists and went in person to buy my first watch. Full day trip each time.

I told them to keep their relationship and dropped $200k at two other ADs who didn’t give me this relationship BS.

It’s like buying SS Rolex is a new way of dating…

Just posted the same scenario the original OP posted. I drove 1 hour and half to an AD to only see 3 watches in the case that I definitely were not interested in buying. I was later told that the watch I wanted has a two year waiting list and that is just an OP41 mm. So in essence, 3 hours of my day and life was waisted. So I feel the OP reasoning in simply continue to drive home and not waist his time.

That's the point at which you speak to another AD. Each AD has their own policy from Rolex and the next AD you speak to might have a policy from Rolex that suits you better. . I don't know how Rolex manage to keep count of all these different policies.

Another possible solution is to find an AD who tells the truth.

Most AD's want to satisfy local customers demand , going in and introducing yourself is usually enough.
I know lots of local people that have got professional models from my local AD in the last year or two with no prior purchase history

The Rolex AD policy it forces on ADs are in the dealership contract. That counteract was an exhibit in a lawsuit against a Chicago AD. ADs can only sell to known customers. It is a fact, in black and white in that publicly available document. (The lawsuit partly involved some SAs violating the policy to sell to flippers, presumably splitting the flipper’s profits. All allegations as far as I know and not proven and disputed by the AD)

The SA wasn’t lying.

But seriously...you look up or across and see a Rolex billboard showing Rolex watches, it's an advertisement and it has a phone number and maybe an website, what are you suppose to do...they gave you a number to call them...

Back in the day, you would call them..say hello..give them your name, ask them what their name, ask what their hours are...and say...what do you have...ohh great, im looking for one of those...whats your address? see you soon...

So why advertise if you not going to sell a watch!!! if they talked to me like that, i would of laughed at them...tell them you are not the only AD on earth and hang up!!!

A billboa like that deserves to be tagged...for false advertisement!!!

ohhh but im not trying to say anything negative....

You advertise to create or support demand, or both. It seems to be working for Rolex.

Apparently it’s not about actually MEETING the demand LOL

HAHAHAHA lol.

I don't know why they would even have a billboard an hour away to attract people passing by when they want to deal with locals anyway. Im sure if your local you already know where the AD is.

Totally a classic response, 90% of AD's are responding with the same line at the moment. The other 10% might not say it but they're probably also following the same approach in terms of "relationship building" (buying other products from them).
