i feel the date wheel in red would jive well with the red text on this SD; not the red second hands though- plus, i reckon sizing would be a bit iffy, look out of place (red seconds from a 40mm YM, placed on a 43mm SD.)

i'd seen pics here where someone had customized a YM (blue dial) with the red date wheel, and it looked fabulous.

get a pelagos lhd for a "different" look, instead of changing your rolex

i find rolex watches to be perfect as they come and not need any modifications to be honest. they know what they're doing and i just leave it to them. modded rolexes remind me of canal street specials

Don't do it, even if others tell you to get what you want. That doesn't apply here. You need to want something else.

I tried it once on a DSSD and found that the red was not quite right. It did not contrast correctly with the black dial and bezel because the red was too deep/rich in color.

I reversed the mod two weeks later

Beyond voiding the warranty and creating potential issues if trying to service the watch through Rolex, there is also obviously the risk of damage to the watch when having this swap performed as well as ending up with a watch that may not have the same water resistance after it is all reassembled. It's your watch and ultimately your call...but that looks terrible and the shade of red on an aftermarket secondhand probably will not even match the shade of red used by Rolex' text, which would make it look even worse (plus, notice the differences in shades on the strontium aluminate paints).

I kinda like the red. When I saw that mod for the first time, I too paused to look a few more times because I liked it. I think you should go for it and then just reverse it if you dislike it! Why not? You only live once, and it's not like we're talking about a rare watch that must remain unmolested to preserve the integrity of horological art. Just don't do anything like turning the watch on the left into the watch on the right -- that's where I draw the line on mods.

I think it's a great idea and a great look.

I would only use Rolex parts and a reputable company for the service. If you change your mind or need to send it in for warranty service I believe you could have the parts swapped back out. I say go for it and do what makes you happy. If you find somebody reputable to do the service please let us know who you went with and post the final pics. Good luck
