What new purchase traditions or superstitions do you have?

I'll be picking up my 2nd Rolex tomorrow and just curious - what traditions or superstitions are there when it comes to picking up a new Rolex?

For instance:
  1. What watch do you wear to go pick up a new Rolex?
  2. Do you wear the new watch out of the store or leave with it in the box?
  3. Do you take a picture of the watch in the store?
  4. Do you take anything to thank your AD?

These are just some I thought of but I'd love to hear what else people do (or don't do) when getting a new Rolex.

Cheers and Happy Friday!

I wouldn’t call it superstition but anytime I buy a new watch I like to wear it out of the store

Like many people, I usually bring my Kurdaitcha with me; along with a small live chicken.

New watch is sized at the store but never worn home, the watch has to be photographed including cards so that I have a record for insurance purposes, then the watch is logged with insurers.

Only then will I wear the watch.

I typically don’t wear a watch if I know I’m picking one up.
Always sized at the AD.
I used to like to sit in my home office and peel the stickers while having a good glass of wine but obviously that’s no longer in play.

An email ready to my insurance company, so I have a time stamped request for coverage the moment I leave.

I like to wait for years after expressing my interest in the watch. I wouldn't want to get it right away, I also wouldn't want to buy it by itself. I like to buy 2-3 things that I'm not interested in just so I can get really excited by my new rolex.

I will set the time and date myself and after that, take a picture of the watch in the store.

I think that if I offer gifts to my SA, just after a purchase and randomly while I wait on a list, I will get my watch faster.

Awfully assumptive don't you think...assuming people are actually going into AD's and buying actual watches?!?!

According to some on these forums, AD's only sell to Grey Dealers - or they shove everything into a safe never to be seen again!

Traditions, "the word tradition itself derives from the Latin tradere literally meaning to transmit, to hand over, to give for safekeeping."

Superstitions, "a widely held but unjustified belief in supernatural causation leading to certain consequences of an action or event, or a practice based on such a belief."

I’ll go there with a watch pod. That way I can keep it physically on me until I get home.

Usually a pick up involves other stops and I won’t leave it in the car.

I wear the watch out of the store and put the watch I had on into a case that I bring (not the watch box).

I generally have gone out to a nice dinner that evening with my new watch to celebrate

As I walk out the AD I make a pretend call saying loudly “Guess what I have to flip!”

I only wear my favorite t-shirt to the store; the one with the dolphin waiving "good-bye."

Ive worn the last watch I purchased there. Shows a wear my watches and I’m not a flipper. I wear the new watch out the door as well.

When I get home I sit in my backyard with a Cohiba robusto and nice glass of port.

I’ve also been with a buddy of mine both times who’s into watches

I bring my backpack to put the Rolex bag/box so I don't draw attention when I get out of the AD.
I do not let my AD size the bracelet. I do it when I get home.
