What would you pay for this used and abused RO

Hello fellow members
So my friend is selling his 2020 38mm RO chronograph ref.26315st he has been wearing the watch non stop for a year exactly and it has lots and lots of scratches and a ding in the bezel at 11 o’clock.
What would you pay for a watch in this condition?
All comments are appreciated.
Thank you.

That’s not too bad. A good friend of mine abused his Diver for 5 years to the point that the watch looked physically and mentally scarred. He sent it to AP for a service and case re finish and the watch came back looking like new.

Agreed. A service and polish would probably do wonders. That’s become a hot watch, what does he want for it?

The best way to do this transaction is to go to your local watch dealer area together.

Get 2-3 quotes from dealers to buy it, now you know what it is worth. Then pay him $500 over the average offer.

He gets more than selling to a dealer, and you pay less than market. Everyone's happy

Market price less the cost of a service + polish I guess.

Split market price and offer prices less service cost.

Assuming it comes with box and papers, and known provenance via a friend, here is what I would be willing to pay: $24-25k, i.e., MSRP minus ~$5k discount for a used watch in need of TLC.

Consequently, I doubt I would come to an agreement with the seller. But under no circumstances would I personally pay "market" minus a small discount for a beat-up current production watch. Are there really people here who would shell out $40k for this specimen? Lowest ask on C24 if $47.5k.

Eh, with that mindset of (just presuming ...) selling it bc of a bit of a market price bump, maybe shouldn't have smashed it around like that. It looks quite awful, sorry.

I'm with Phoenix, the equation "market minus cost of service and polish" makes no sense to me at all ... look at a steep markdown or work to find the right type of buyer I guess.

$24-25k would be a steal. Wouldn't a grey dealer offer him more than that?

I suggested splitting grey offers and market value less service cost otherwise there's no reason to even have the transaction with anyone other than a dealer.

I'd be telling him to secure the screw that has backed out of one of the 2 1.5 links before he looses the watch.

Nice to one that has been worn and enjoyed.

Oh, that does seem more sensible, objectively. That would probably land you in the 35k range.

I was definitely pricing a "don't wanna deal with it" discount, so it's a very subjective datapoint. If OP is a potential buyer that can live with the scratches (or implications of polishing them), that's entirely fair, although I contend you really have to want it to pay 30+ still.

Yes, I was replying to the thread title, "What would you pay for this used and abused RO". I'm sure the friend could get more than my offer on the open market, but I would not pay (much) more than that; just a matter of preference.
