Well if its looks in great condition to you that's the only opinion that's matters IMHO you are well over thinking this polish stuff.

Both look great, I only never trust those pictures as the second one and will never buy if only these kind of pictures are provided.
Don’t know how a photographer does it but it hides everything what I want to see. Between the two I’d pick the first one for this reason.

I never polish my watches and I never shower because I believe it removes my natural musk that makes me so attractive to the opposite sex. My wife doesn't agree with me but she really doesn't understand the subconscious factors at play. Sure you can take that beat up looking Sub or Daytona and send it to RSC and have it come back looking like a "new watch" but only to someone who doesn't have the "third eye" for detecting that 3 microns of superficial material has been remove changing forever the topography of the exterior of the piece. It also changes the musk ....the years of accrued scents from your wrist that are irreplaceable....especially if you are like myself and never shower. I call that smell...."Pirate Booty" and it's a particular odor that you do not want to polish away after working years to get it on your watch. It's olfactory patina.

Whoever is suggesting it is fine to polish a Submariner / Sea Dweller is giving bad advice. Never polish a tool watch. Any polish will remove metal. You lose the original bezels - it doesn't matter if RSC does it. Further, the scratches and swirls are what gives the watch character. In addition to making the watch look worse when you polish it, you are also destroying value if you care about that. None of the serious collectors I know would buy a modern Rolex if it had ever been polished. Admittedly, the number of serious collectors that exist are a tiny minority of the Rolex buying public but I encourage you all to stop polishing your tool watches. You're already on an enthusiast website so you're almost there. Lastly, do whatever you want because you will anyway. What do I know.

I think it's fine to polish any watch you want if it's your watch and you plan to keep it or...if you are going to sell it don't really care about what "collectors" think. When you buy a piece from DavidSW or whoever and it's been worn before I'm pretty sure that they will make sure it's buffed up before taking pictures or selling it. It's not the "Newman Daytona" we are talking about here for 17.8million but the garden variety Gold Daytona or President that looks better without the swirls and scratches all nice and shined up and the micron of metal....less than a gram that is removed is worth less than peanuts. Yes...with precious pieces of art it's best if they haven't been restored but they ALL need to be properly restored at some point and if the restoration is well done you will still get your price. The Mundi painting by Leonardo was poorly restored and sill fetched 1/2 billion dollars. If it was never restored it would be unrecognizable. If you have an old pre CBS Fender Strat it is worth far more beat up and original than repainted and shiny new looking but Subs and SeaDwellers aren't rare pieces like Pre CBS Strats are. In 50 years those pieces would be worth more if completely virginal but are you going to be worried about that? Are you going to be alive to care? Just enjoy your watch and if you don't like looking at swirls and scratches....knock them out and give less than a care about the watch's worth because it will still sell for more than you paid for it if you bought it new from the AD.

You are already thinking of sending your watch to the RSC for the hands problem you have . They will polish everything correctly at the same time.

A bad polish job is like pornography, you just know it when you see it. What a seller chooses to label it is meaningless, you need to evaluate the watch and know what it was supposed to look like when it was new.

It seems the watch 'investors' eschew polishing. But if you want a shiny new watch, by all means polish the hell out of it as long as it enhances your enjoyment of your timepiece!

It's OK to polish your tool watch like it's OK to wear socks with sandals, split two "10s" in blackjack, or marry your cousin. It's OK and perfectly legal to be wrong. But it's still wrong to polish your Submariner. Take the $250 you would have spent polishing and take a scuba diving lesson or some other adventure.
