A bit of a dilemma!

Hi guys,

Probably a really daft question but I could do with some advice. I'm going to be buying an 114060 and I have my eye on two potential watches. One is a 2019 but has scratches on the reverse of all lugs from strap changes and the rehaut is misaligned (makes my OCD jangle), apart from that it's a full set with the rest of the watch nigh on mint. The other is a 2017 in mint condition previously owned by a WIS with no scratches and a perfectly aligned rehaut, again a full set..plus it's £350 cheaper.

What do I go for do you think? The 2019 that makes my OCD jangle but has 3 years warranty left or the 2017 that's pretty much perfect but only has 10 months warranty.

Any comments welcome.

I believe both are running within specs.

I don't think you should base your decision on 2 additional years of warranty and it sounds like you'd be happier with the second option

I’d buy the 17’. Asssuming you could put the $350 toward service if needed

The 2017. Sounds like better condition and $350 less.

I’d go with the 2017. It’s a long term investment and presumably any significant issues would come up in the first few months after purchase. So the one in better condition and cheaper is the one to go with.

i don't think i've ever seen a perfectly aligned rehault. do those actually exist? (that said, scratches on the lugs bother me)

Here's the rehaut on the 2019, not massively off but it irritates my OCD.

2017, definitely.

Original spec 2019 watch clearly didn't 'click' with the owner so messed about with straps and even careless in the process.

Like when you see signs of carelessness or mods on a used car - look for another.

The rehaut off by that much would drive me nuts as well, even though you really don't see that part of the watch during regular use knowing it's off is annoying enough. The rehaut on my 114060 is perfectly aligned even under a jewellers loop, my 34mm air-king rehaut is off marginally barely noticeable under the loop.

Is the rehaut thing claimable under the warranty? If it was fixable I'd advise going with the newer 2019. If not you might want to just go with the 2017. Great choice on the 114060 by the way I'm in love with mine.

OMG, I've never checked my watches for misalignment and can't even see it with my naked eye when I tried looking at the one I'm wearing, haha.

Purchase the one that will best please you From what you wrote I believe that would be the older one.

I'm not sure it's a warranty issue as I presume the misalignment is within tolerance. I suppose I could get it sorted when the watch went it for service though.

Yes they do. I managed to get a 6 points of perfection of alignment.

Start at the bezel and go all the way to the lower crown on the bottom of the dial.
Each point is perfectly aligned. Of course this means nothing and it’s luck of the draw.

I noticed it when doing its first macro inspection when adjusting the bracelet.
It’s luck of the draw but every new watch I tend to check hand alignment, when date rolls over, bezel alignment at 12, etc… Accuracy, resting positions and mainspring test is also done the first few weeks.

If it were me, I'd purchase the 2017 cosmetically unblemished. Scratches, even on the back of the lugs would bother me. The likelihood of requiring warranty work is low so I wouldn't use that as the determinant of your decision. Good luck.

That’s a new one for me. Never checked the rehaut alignment on any of my watches

One less thing to obsess over I guess. I did however just look down at my 126715. Looks good to me.

2017 no question. You can service the watch anytime, price is whatever. But a misaligned rehaut? Yikes.

You’re not going to use the warranty, buy the better condition watch. Especially since you’re OCD and it’s less $. Easy
