And I am so thankful I do not care about a “misaligned” rehaut.

A bit of a dilemma!
Rehauts are never “off”. They are precisely milled as the midcase is finished long before engraving or assembly of the watch.
Therefore, they don’t need to be fixed nor can they be fixed. The engraving is done by laser and is precisely at 0° on every midcase. Dials vary and the techniques for assembly have the greatest chance of making the rehaut engraving appear to be misaligned. What 9 things can be off (in no particular order or likelihood) are: • dials that aren’t precisely printed at the chapter ring, usually due to the pad being overly worn before transferring ink. • dial backs inaccurately drilled for the mounting prongs, a process that varies by type of dial. • prongs aligned poorly, that is, not completely perpendicular to the plane of the dial. • poorly drilled dial face for mounting the triangle at 12 o’clock, some dials get a gold crown, some get a triangle, some neither (like a DD). • poorly mounted gold crowns or triangles on dials during assembly, a manual process. • poorly mounted dials onto movements, a manual process. • poorly clamped movements to the midcase, a manual process. • poor milling for recesses/points to accept movement clamps. • Monday morning hangovers for anyone in the chain. Prolly 9 more ways to fumble not worth stating. None are reason for a warranty return IMHO. But there are ways to fine-tune some of the tiny 1/2mm misalignments for what it’s worth. Peter said it best…lose the loupe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Thank you for the very concise reply, it's much appreciated
Well I bought the 2017 and it arrived today, unfortunately there's a dink on the lower right lug and it's bang on the edge. Doesn't look much in the photos but it really caught the light. So I've returned the watch for a refund as once that dink is seen it can't be unseen. Shame as the rehaut was aligned perfectly. The seller that had the 2019 example with the scratched reverse lugs has offered me another 2019, so fingers crossed for this one! Here's the dinked 2017, I know it doesn't look much but still...watch was pretty dirty too. |

I never realised the rehaults were supposed to be aligned to anything

2017. Buy the watch, not the warranty.

Is there any chance that the misaligned rehaut is the result of a less-than-careful servicing (by an entity other than RSC)? If so, definitely stay away, as the warranty will have been voided anyhow.

Just going by what you've posted I'd go for the 2017 Sub. If you are OCD about a misaligned rehaut then it will drive you nuts over time and you'll always be thinking you should have taken the 2017 watch! Even if you try and ignore the misalignment just knowing it's there will be enough...! Just my take!

These watches last a lifetime, a couple of years is nothing.
And you'll get more warranty at service time anyway..

Guys, I think you're missing a couple of my posts. I bought the 2017 but it had a dink on one of the lugs, please see above pics. The seller who had the 2019 with the scratched lugs and misaligned rehaut has offered me another 2019 which I hope will be better
