Starting to collect
I want to start collecting Panerai watch models, especially with manual movement, although they can also be automatic. What are the models that you think would be the most appropriate.
Some suggestions? Thanks. |

Start with the 111, classic manual wind movement.

111 is where I started by chance. The more time I spend on this forum the more I find that the 111 appears to be universally loved.

I started with a 176, basically a 112 in titanium, the 111 equivalence is the 177 I believe. I then got a 232, classic radiomir, and the last winter an automatic 692 submersible. This covers a lot for me. Here's a picture of them, in that order left to right, all on a rubber strap.

I’ve had 390 ltd edition, collectible but I couldn’t get on with the tobacco dial. 233 superb but too busy, now early decorated movement 112 which in my opinion is the best Base. I’d add 111 for Marina, 127 Fiddy and 232 Radiomir. Possibly 217 Destro. Money no object, back to PreV.

Its really hard to say because some pam's are expensive. it depends if you want more quantity or more complication and more unique material. quantity there is a slew of really cool models priced from 4-7k. now if you want to get into the complication models your talking 12-20k+. same with the non-steel material cases: ceramic, carbotech or even gold, you entering into a 12-20k+ range.
these are my recommendations 372 - hours minutes sandwich dial 335 - all black ceramic GMT |

Thanks. I'm going to start with 111. I'm going to start looking in Miami where I live. I would like to get one from a private individual and if not I will visit a gray dealer

Be careful buying panerai from private sellers; Lots of fakes are hard to identify unless you are familiar with the brand. If its your first I highly recommend buying from a reputable grey dealer.

Be careful & best of luck on your search. As a side note I swore I was only going to have one Panerai & now I end up with 2 more the past 2 months.

Welcome to the madness. Firstly please be careful buying preowned from the web and make sure you due diligence first.
Luckily this forums has several trusted sellers. If you decide to buy preowned : For manual Luminors you may look at 000/112 , or 005 /111 For Manual Radiomirs 210 , 232 or 190 are good choices. Also consider buying new from AD or Boutique with full 8 years warranty and be happy first owner. I personally own 000, 232 and 162 which are all discontinued models. My wife has 610 with 8 days movement. |
