Why would I avoid wearing what I like around family and friends? I do however avoid the Rolex at work given it’s questionable reputation with the general public.
Usually wear my Speedmaster or Apple Watch when going to the office.

On an episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Alec and Jerry talked about "bomb cars" which are a Long Island tradition. You have beaters that you literally use and drive around without a care in the world. Alec has a late '80s or early '90s BMW 740 that he throws the dogs in the back and runs them down at the beach. The seats and carpet are all wet and full of sand and dog hair, and it looks like a bomb went off in there, but it's a fun car. I forget what Jerry uses as his bomb car.

I have 3 brother in laws. My wife’s 2 brothers and my sister’s husband. Losers!

All 3 are literally supported by their wife. I honestly think at least 1 of them (maybe 2) would be homeless if they weren’t married.

There is a massive financial gap between them and us.

I really don’t give a crap what any of them think or say.

If they don’t like it when I wear a Rolex, then they could go pound sand.

Ha ha, that's a great one! It's hard enough with one family. I don't know how those con men guys who maintain 2 separate secret families can even pull it off.

Is this a serious question? My would I not wear whatever I want around the in-laws? Did I marry them?

I can totally see how it would come off as ostentatious or at least conspicuous, wearing a rolex around a family member that is struggling financially.
Apparently a lot of people here don't get that. At the very least it's a legit question.

That’s stupid. My house is way more impressive than any Rolex available out there.

Should I lock them out and not let them in?

But you just added the "around a family member that is struggling financially" bit, that was nowhere in the OP's question.

Someone could ask "is it ok to tell my in-laws that I got a new job?" To which 99% of the world would answer "of course". But then throw in "if one of my in-laws has lost their job recently and was behind on their mortgage"... Well, ok, obviously in that situation it's probably not the most pleasant topic for a holiday dinner... Context matters in most things, and I doubt you are the only one here who gets that :)

Well you’ve got yourself some interesting holiday parties. Lol
My BIL isn’t like that by any stretch. My take is that while he’s decided to riddle himself with college debt and do everything the “right way”. Him and his wife both work ect…

I’m over here with none of his credentials, my wife is a stay at home mom, and I’m wearing his car on my wrist.

I can understand the madness that could bring someone if they’re constantly comparing themselves.

Yeah, one was the class stoner and didn’t do well in school, and surprisingly he has a relatively okay job but his wife is clearly the bread winner. The thing about him is that he acts like he’s an expert at everything. It’s astonishing.

The other 2 just don’t work at all. They’re ok. They’re not over bearing and are good fathers, but they’re just very different than me.

I’m never going to think to myself, “my in-laws are coming over, I can’t wear my Rolex in front of them.”
