Ouch...

"CTV.ca News Staff

General Motors is shutting down nearly two-fifths of its dealerships across Canada, mostly in key urban areas, at the cost of thousands of jobs.

A GM spokesperson said letters were sent Wednesday to 245 of 709 dealerships in Canada informing them that their sales-and-service relationships will be ending."

Times are going to get tougher for a lot of GM Canada employees.

Our new scrappage scheme (£2000 off the price of any new car when you trade in a 10 year old model) has provided a huge boost and injection of interest in the car market.

Cynics might say it's a govt. incentive to get more people in more debt and thus boost the borrowing and economy once more...hmmmmmmmmmmm

In this economy it's not a good time to be a car manufacturer or dealership. Many are closing here in the states as well. Not only GM dealerships but Chrysler dealerships as well and Pontiac is being shut down completely. Many will be out of work and this includes the parts manufacturers as well!!!

Al, I can tell you about the town where I grew up. When I was a kid there were TWO Ford dealers, one GM dealer, and one Chrysler dealer.

The Ford and GM dealerships are gone. Chrysler is still there together with.. a Toyota dealer, a Honda dealer, a Nissan dealer, and a Kia dealer.

Lower the prices and put the inventory on the streets. They will require parts and service = $$$.

Yeah, what do I know.
